A couple of tweaks to ABC1 in the last couple of days.

Firstly, the NEXT sequence at the end of programmes has been changed with a new backing tune and the announcer keeping up with the graphics.

A few new trailers are cropping in, most notable for General Hospital.

However, despite having four or five rather nice idents in their first week ABC1 are now using the same annoying one with the circles ALL the time!

Also to note that last Sunday most of their programming was Halloween specials.

I noticed a few different trailers for Home Improvement the other day. Is the Announcer still pre-recorded?

No - they pay a bloke to sit there and say exactly the same thing every day. Wink

ABC1 is doing quite well, attracting 1.5m viewers in the first few weeks - and only beaten by ITV1,2, C4 and five in the commercial sector.

Also, ABC1 will go on all digital platforms next year - but will not go 24hr until later next year at the earliest.

Strong start for abc1, claims Disney
Thursday, November 4 2004, 08:05 GMT -- by Neil Wilkes

Disney's new general entertainment channel abc1 has made a promising start in the ratings since its Freeview debut in September.

According to C21 quoting figures from the broadcaster, the channel was beaten in commercial ratings by only ITV1, ITV2, Channel 4 and Five through October.

An estimated 1.5 million viewers tuned in its first four weeks on air, with an average total share of 1.5% in Freeview homes.

John Hardie, senior vp and md of Walt Disney Branded Television EMEA, told the website he was planning to roll the channel out to digital cable and Sky within the next six months.

"We're running well ahead of our targets and projections at this point and it's a tantalising prospect to have broader distribution and scheduling," said Hardie, adding that an expansion of the channel's broadcast hours into primetime would not happen for another year.

As I have said before, they seem to be using the orange/green circles for comedy shows and the blue/grey for drama / soap. But being in Wales for the first week of abc1's broadcasting life I missed the early idents. Anyone got any caps/clips?

They are basically extended versions of the break bumpers - but I don't think the "ABC1" jingle (the end 4 notes) was there at the beginning.

Also, 8 Simple Rules has jumped back to the beginning now following the end of seris 1. Disapointing as I thought they might show series 2, but I think this has only just been on Disney.

P.S. Why ABC1? I get the ABC, but not the 1, and understand it was planned with the working title Disney Daytime.

Yep, they're actually still showing the new episodes of Season 2 of 8 Simple Rules for the first time on Disney, i.e. they haven't gon eto the beginning yet, so it may be a while before they come to ABC1. And I also don't get the '1'.

Home Improvement seems to have missed many episodes out. Last week we saw the second part of an obviously two-part episode, but the first part wasn't screened.

On Monday they showed one episode (Al's wedding) of the three-part conclusion to the series, and today they've jumped back to an early series with a different Heidi and the kids being kids again.

The "Different Heidi" is actually Lisa, a completely different character Wink

Well, they referred to her as Heidi - and she was credited as Heidi at the end of the programme - Charlotte someone, while the later Heidi is Debbie Dunning.
