Probably good news if he's worrying "the suits". Even better news if he's worrying the Daily Mail.
That said I'm not sure many here view him being there for the long haul, though to be honest it would probably be the best thing for his career to get a year or so out of it then get fired rather than get locked into a chat show for a decade.
There's something not quite right about those studio pics. They seem to be "mirrored" in that the show's logo on the set is back to front, and the desk and guest chairs configuration is the opposite of how it is on all the other big US late night talk shows.
To be fair to Corden, the same things were said of both Ferguson and Conan O'Brien. For the first year of their shows to be honest.
I agree with those who say that studio doesn't sit right. I've always liked late night shows that actually look a bit a bit dark, like they're actually filmed at 12:30am in the morning. If I had to give an example, i'd say the original set and lighting for Late Night with David Letterman, or if we stick with this show, Tom Snyder's set. That new set could be on a daytime show.
Regardless of whether the pics have been flipped or not, I'm not entirely keen on that set. It looks like it's a show from the 1980's!
Don't they all. The middle isn't too bad, though don't understand the obsession with desks - think they really create a barrier between host and guest, especially in this sort of arrangement. The wings though look like a poor afterthought.
I think that Graham Norton got the idea correct from So Graham Norton by having a desk for question cards, a computer and drink but having it behind the chair.
I hope it doesn't, but I worry that this modesty (be it real or not) will come back to bite him on the arse. America, if I'm not mistaken, like people who are aspirational and confident (like Jimmy Fallon for example) or self-loathing and miserable for comic effect (Ferguson, O'Brien). I remember reading about why Mr Bean fell so hard in the States because America didn't like how the character didn't want to achieve anything, and how he just plodded along. America like people they can cheer on, and I'm starting to think that they'll grow tired of James' modesty and ridicule him for not having the guts to say to himself that he can carry the show.
