Remember that there is not a political region, which the regions should be based around, called 'South Midlands'.
Herefordshire IS in the West Midlands, along with Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.
Oxfordshire is South East and Gloucestershire is South West England. This doesn't look very regional, firstly.
Secondly, the region would surely be too small for a dedicated half hour show and short bulletins each day.
I agree that Herefordshire and Gloucestershire shouldn't be covered on Midlands Today.
You couldn't even call the show Thames Valley ('Today') with Herefordshire included.

I'm sure Nick Owen is called Nicholas.
I think Nick Owen is called Nick Owen so to avoid any confusion between himself and ITN newsreader Nicholas Owen....

Why should the BBC regions be based around political regions??? I can see no reason for this!!! That would only be important for the Sunday parliamentary programmes. After all, ITV1/Carlton/Central (whatever) divide the Midlands into West, East and
South
. So why can't the BBC have a south midlands too?
And indeed there already
is
less division for the political shows - MidsTdy and EMT come together for Viewpoint Midlands (my proposed SMT region would be dragged into that too). Also, STdy and SETdy come together for South On Sunday.
MDR, you mention 'political regions' in many posts, why are you obsessed with such things. This forum is about TV, not politics!!!
