Who knows; perhaps there was some legal reason the show inbetween could not be aired.

We didn't seem to miss any contestants by not seeing this episode so unless there was a legal problem with a question then I'd bet on either a mistake or a technical (perhaps quality issue) with the missing episode.

I take it that girl from Inverkeithing high school,( form the 4.30pm) bet the 2 boys from the 4pm epsoides?

I think she must have done, assuming only one episode was missed of course. I've lost track of what 'day' we are on. Would the missing episode have been a Friday episode and therefore include the hand jive at the end? Is it possible that someone from the audience got their bum out during this and it wasn't noticed on the original broadcast?

Yes it should have been a Friday episode at 4.30pm.

( to be honest bar Central and Anglia, everyone else got it whenever from 1990 aswell)

There is actually very little reference to the broadcast times on the programme itself, at least in the episodes Challenge are currently showing. Holness always refers to 'next time' and 'last time'.

but every 5th episode would be the one with the hand jive, if the next Hand jive appears on Wednesday at 4.55pm then it will prove the "Friday" was cut!

Have they?

Yes they have. Challenge have replaced it with double Weakest Link from next Saturday and Sunday at 3pm

Where do you see that?

According to the Sky website, EPG and DigiGuide it's 3-2-1.

Radio Times have put Weakest Link on Saturday & Sunday 3-5pm. Which doesn't make sense has it's only a 1 hour show (unless they're showing double bills of course)

Am I right in thinking that 5 episodes would be recorded in one day, and the producers would dangle the hand jive as a sort of carrot so the masses of Sixth Formers behaved (I don't imagine the old people were much bother!).

I'd imagine the reason Bob never mentioned the specific day is because it wasn't networked, yet most regions took it in some way. Also, it was one of CTE's biggest sellers.

Its good that channels like Challenge are coming across to Freeview now, but it kinda puts the kybosh on things when people are stuck on a relay transmitter and only get half the channels.

I'd really like it if there was a rule which meant Freeview content had to also be available on Freesat. A certain Satellite service provider who also owns a good number of channels means that's never likely to happen.

Bingo!

as said before, only 7of the ITV compaines went with the 5-6 Episodes a week over shorter time period, while the 7 compaines only had it 4 days a week over 7 months. TSW had it 3 times a week over 10 period...

I remember reading somewhere, there was 5 done over the whole day, after each episode was recorded it was Played-back. plus that actually broad like to have hissy fits sometimes Laughing From what I believe that Hand jive episode happened sometime at late into the evenings!

It took 6 full weeks of recording daily to get the show made, half the studio was filled with waiting contests who could be waiting a full week to be on the show....

Leading to Blockbusters becoming a bit of a knocking shop, as Central hired out several hotel rooms in Nottingham/Birmingham for students whilst they waited. Steve Merchant was disappointed to find that when the BBC resurrected the series, they'd let anyone apply and the magic was lost.

The hand jive had nothing to do with the production team, rather it was invented by one of the contestants, who, as you inferred, was bored while waiting for his turn to come around (they did indeed record five episodes per day). He suggested it to his fellow contestants and then the production team thought it would be a good idea to film it.

Et voila, le premiere.

et la finale

Yeah that's true, I didn't mean to suggest that it was their idea in the first place.
