Its interesting to note that www.skychallenge.co.uk directs to the new challenge site. I think there could be a rebrand on the way. Especially now since it has a sky logo on the site.
As much as I'd like to see a rebrand, why would they leave it until now? Surely they'd have rebranded it in Feb with everything else.
I'd imagine they wanted to test the waters with how popular the channel would be on Freeview. It would seem silly for it to rebrand only for them to close it months later. (Let's not mention Sky 3!)
But it seems that viewing figures are doing well since its launch on Freeview so a rebrand and some more money spent on it wouldn't be surprising really!

I get the feeling this may have been purchased before the Freeview carriage was announced. There are/were several references to "Sky Challenge/SCHA" on the Sky Programme Information website.

I don't. They probably just have the name to protect it and as they have it they thought it makes sense to redirect It to the Challenge website.
The rebrand of Sky 3 was an obvious attempt to the dissociate the Sky brand with Freeview, while maintaining outlets to promote Sky's stuff. So I'd hardly see why they'd rebrand something recently launched on Freeview with the Sky name if this is their thinking.

I may of course be wrong.
Unless the plan is to then remove it from Freeview entirely; replaced by PickTV+2?

I wouldn't be surprised if challenge is taken off freeview within the next year, sky normally doesn't invest in a channel that doesn't have its name attached. Look at Pick TV for example, the only reason its there is to bring promos from the sky channnels. If sky wanted challenge to do the same, they wouldn't invest a penny in programming. It seems to me that sky has plans to make it a part of the sky entertainment group - joining Sky1, Living, Atlantic and Arts. Therefore rebranding to Sky Challenge.
