Kay is wonderful. Kay surrounds us, Kay connects us, Kay binds the universe together, Kay is the purveyor of quality travel information to the Midlands, via the help of her innovative 'at a glance on screen travel and weather service' - she makes sure the Midlands gets to work with a smile. Travel is a subject VERY close to Kay's heart, and she wants to make sure that we do not leave the house ill informed and that we know about the multiple pile-up and what frequency our BBC local radio station is on.

When Kay is with us, the sun always shines. There is nothing that can't be achieved. No mountain too high.

AND Kay has been with Midlands Today for 30 years, now THAT is devotion to the Midlands.

Praise Kay.

I think i'm going to be prodigiously sick.....

Just to try to help me understand (I'm from the South West you see), what is so special about this Kay woman?

She is the female equivalent of Peter Levy.

Peter Levy being....?

A presenter who used to be really good at breakfast and lunchtime, regularly fill in on the main Look North and do a radio show, that was until Hull, and it all went down hill.......

OK, fair enough. Not sure that the Praise Kay thing is terribly healthy though....

I'll remember that next time you mention Peter Levy or Paul 'Jewish' Hudson.

Really? Phil and tvmercia working their magic on you now? Surely as a Mod, you should be an example to us that you can be impartial and rise above this sort of thing...

Sorry, magic? I don't understand. I answer to neither Phil or tvmercia. I'm just saying that you are very hypocritical just because I happen to make a post about someone I like.

This is not the first time you appear to have a problem with me either.

Blimey.

You don't come on for 4 days(Page 56/57), now it's on page 65 !

Thought on David Gregory.

Does anyone have a pic of Steve Harley, of 70's pop combo Cockney Rebel. (Prefably from TOTP Xmas 1975 show! Col from TOTPTastic, or someone of similar ilk, could you oblige please ?)

Trying comparing those two !

New studio pics. Hmm interesting.

Wasn't the conservatory also used for 'Talkabout' , back in the late 90's?
(I've got the Ed Doolan edition on tape from then, & I'm sure it's the same studio)

Onto BBC WM now.

A few presenters are out & about in Wolverhampton on Sunday, for the marathon, with a few taking part in the relay.

(Danny Kelly admitted Tom Manners was in the 'Wonder Moose' outfit(station mascot) as well!)

(One of my work mates is taking part too !)

Over in Covertry & Warwickshire land, there's a car rally or something, with Annie Othen in one of the cars (I think). There's also a WM roadshow (I think) in Coventry Memorial Park too.

(You can see I take that much notice of C&W happenings (not!))

Took the radio into work today, & caught Sally James.

Is she doing her show from elsewhere at the mo ?

(Any regular listeners know ?)

It's just odd that in MSN conversations, tvmercia and Phil use the Paul Hudson being gay or Jewish a lot... I've developed a defence by having a little 'fun' by saying Kay's a Rasta...

I'm well aware of what tvmercia and Phil say. But just because they say these things does not mean I am copying them or they are putting me up to it. I do have a mind of my own.

Anyway, I don't want this thread ruined by this unneccassry nonsense, especially just a few days before the MIDLANDS TODAY NEW LOOK.

They've PAINTED the beige panels red!!! Seems a bit makeshift. Don't the panels come in red then.

i think some of us have forgotten the golden rule of relaunches ... to avoid one's instinctive rejection of change. of course it could turn out to be a complete pile of poo - but atleast you will have given it a good chance by watching with an open mind.

fair doos - the red and cream is a bit of a let down - it would have been nice to see a bit of a change - but remember, we've only got 6 months of this to put up with - so hardly the end of the world.

introducing the sofa is a huge change i think. admittedly the format style and atmosphere of the 6.30 show lends itself neatly to the sofa already, but it'll be interesting to see how it comes off on the brekkie, 1.30 and 10.25 with a presenter all alone.

, personally stand by the fantastic results central got with their 2001 sofa relaunch as proof that its what the people of the midlands want. there is a danger however, as only central know too well (indeed it HAS been their downfall), that tvam style presentation can encourage tvam style content (following the, people liked it when we made it like tvam - so lets continue tweaking). we are at a stage now where central give coverage to little kids on their first day at school and tons of cute-kid related features, oh and lots of health stuff. i, personally see the tweaking with the editorial policy at central unnecessary and damaging - and i think the viewing figures suggest that the people of the midlands concur.

in essence - copy central 2001 relaunch presentation wise, and you're onto a winner - but alter the content at your peril.

i'd also imagine some minor bulletin may look a little lonely with a presenter on the couch alone - perhaps they could retain the conservatory for all bulletins except the 6.30 Confused

i also wonder how long it will before central overhaul their show - and what's the betting they revert to the desk format. oh if only dan hadn't wrecked things with that last tweak.

anyway - here are some more pictures of kay doing her thing - she does look very at home doesn't she. (and by the way - kay is NOT *just* a presenter, she is the producer, journalist and she, most importantly enters the news, travel, sport and local radio frequencies into the midlands breakfast system).

As the preview at the end of the programme showed, the old desk is still in the studio, so perhaps they will use the sofas for the 6.30 programme only, and move the desk in position for the other bulletins?
