HTV Wales' weather sometimes used to be done by the same person to HTV West at the same time.

The script was the same for both regions but the graphics were different and the out and about section was different.

At 11am today there was a special East version and the presenter actually said '..in the East'. It was a voice over, I thought it was quite a nice touch.

The sub-regional map was shown at 11.00am!!! It is not good, as it is zoomed in too far.

They have stopped the lunch time bulletin of weather now.

I've just seen the mid-afternoon Central Weather bulletin and they are doing sub-regionals now. I am in Coventry, so I saw only the East edition. It is awful! They don't show all the region! It is just a load of giant symbols scattered around the Wash. It had just Nottingham labelled. Absolute mess. Why did they have to change Central Weather?

Any other regions changed their graphics?

Hunt as I may, Mike, I've not found any, YET.

Westcountry are still the same as last year, AND still with 'Data from WSI' in the corner.

Meridian still have Carl (and your best temperatures) Tyler and the bright orange 2001 graphics. I don't think Meridian will dare change presenters until dear old Carl retires.

Noticing that these new weather graphics all appear to be a common design for the entire Carlton empire, I thought it was quite interesting that the opening titles weren't based on stars.

In fact, the placing of the circles on CENTRAL WEATHER looks like the corner of a 'C' spelled out with circles.  All they'd have to do is add some horizontal lines to those circles, and a single curve, and *what* would you end up with...? Wink

And if you haven't twigged, this is what I saw in my mind's eye...

And yes, I KNOW it's a mock! OK, so send me to jail.
I'm not conning anybody, I did it myself. It's not real.

I just wanted to illustrate that I SUSPECT Carlton's designers (i.e. ex-Central in Nottingham) want to try and ease in a little bit of the 'old-school' style in there.

And to go back to my original point, why HAVE Carlton stations gone for a weather animation that uses CIRCLES as its central motif (pun intended) instead of stars? I think we should be told.

The odd thing though, Mark, is that Westcountry haven't changed and they're Carlton of course.

It's probably as simple as when the aniversaries fall of the original companies signing contracts with WSI.

If Carlton's group policy is to move from WSI to Met Office, each individual region moves as soon as the old WSI contract expires.

Fantastic!

You've made me all nostalgic for the cake now. That mock should be real!
