Actually, when you see this shot, you realsie that the studio CNWest is in is not all that microscopic after all (look how much space there is between us and the desk).

It seems that they've been having a broom-cupboard sized set shoved in one corner an otherwise wasted room. Thank goodness that the new look from Monday 1st Oct will rectify this and actually use the rest of the studio to better effect!

I just wish someone here in the Yorkshire TV region would look at the designs of Central News and give us something like this for our region!

Yeah, I think the space they actually had was quite a bit, but they put full use to it really.

The small desk didn't help create a 'large' studio either!

Anyway, we know we are getting a decent sized set on Mondaym so there is no need to worry about that old thing. Wink

harshy,

during Election 2001, didn't Calendar have an extra area of set for election coverage? This shows they've got more space to play with than they're currently using (sounds familiar!). On Monday, Carlton will cease being guilty of something similar - and look at the potential given to CNWest as a result!

So perhaps YTV should follow Carlton's example(?)

I wish it would, but the design principles of the two regions are totally different, so I doubt Calendar would follow Central News.

As to the first question, I can't answer it as the reception for Yorkshire is quite bad, and watched BBC instead!

Yeah that was strange!

Calendar has an election desk but haven't put it to use since!

Midlands Today are also in a rather large studio but their actual set is tiny!!! I have no idea why they actually did that! Surely they just decided against a large set, which seems a little silly!

I prefer Central News in 2 presenters than 1

I agree!

I think the national news can do with only one, as its mostly dealing with serious issues but regional news could really do with 2. There are more light hearted stories on regional news and I think just one presenter doesn't give the right atmosphere.

Having said that, BBC NWT has only one presenter for its main programme and it still does very well, thats probably because its presented by the most excellent Gordon Burns. Smile

Here's the 1997 election desk...

It was used for the results programme and also at the start of every Calendar programme Mike and Christa handed over to Mr Whiteley at the 'Calendar Election Desk'.
