And now it looks like CN West won't have it either. CN South was the first to drop it. So much for Carlton's heavy-handed 'Carltonisation' of everything - it seems to have come undone.

Of course, in the West Country region the regional news programme has never been 'Carltonised'. And now the idea has been dropped in all three Central sub-regions.

No wonder rumours are flying around that the Central and Westcountry names will be restored to the stations - although logic would tell me that that is EXTREMELY unlikely. Having said that, earlier this week I heard a continuity announcement saying 'you're watching Carlton in the Central Region' - which hasn't been said since September 1999 (i.e. the first week that Central was called Carlton instead). So maybe this does show a return to favouring the old name (?).

But n the south west, haven't they said 'Carlton in the West Country' fairly constantly since September 1999 (?) So it's probably just a slight change in attitude rather than a prelude to a total reversal of what has been done.

Yes, the 'This is Carlton, broadcasting in the Central region' announcement has been coming up more and more over the last couple of weeks.

Anyway, as for Central News. Thank goodness two of the best people at East have moved to West. Dan Barton has made the Central News East programme a great success and I can see he will do a very good job with the West as well.

I'm pretty happy that Bob and Llewela will be back on screen together again properly. I always thought they made a great team.

All I can say is roll on 01.10.01 as it says in the new trailer that contains the theme. I really love the Central News East, I'm so glad the whole concept is coming to the West Midlands.

I dare say Central News West will again become the most popular programme in the West Midlands. Midlands Today has been getting worse and worse over the last weeks/months.
Central News will be knocking spots over Nick Owen and Sue Beardsmore! Smile

im not sure how important this is in a global context - but does any one know wether this dan barton has come from a fashion background - cos on the trailer the three presenters clothes are coordinated (red and black theme) - and the picture of llewela in the new studio shows her in a peach suit that coordinates with the desk. - i only mention it cos central news have never done that before.

...or have i got too much time on my hands to notice things like that?...

i think another way to improve central news would be to integrate the weather into the main shows - i know the sponsorship would be an obstical (finding a way to play the advert in the news) but i think it would lead to a more complete show - removing the time people have to switch over.

i think the weather studio is somewhere else in bham, and it would be awkward to expect the presenter (who works for an independant company) to stand in the studio to do it ... but bob could say 'now its over to charlie for the weather' and her be on the plasma screen - bit like on the bbc 1oclock news.

just a thought

if your reading this dan dot barton at carlton tv dot com - is that your real name?

no it wasnt funny was it?

ok im trying my best to keep this thread above the granada reports thread - as our region is more important - i urge you all to post messages for your region!

Good idea but the only trouble with that is that all weather bulletins are recorded for West, East and South so it would mean Bob linking to a recorded weather forecast.

Although all the weather presenter would have to do is say, 'Thank you, good evening' and then 'Thats it, back to XX' at the end.

Not difficult but as you say, getting the sponsor in is the difficult part.

I've not gone anywhere near Central News West for months and months and months - not even this week (therefore I've not seen the 'new look promo' for myself)

Ison, do I understand your comment (above) correctly? Is Central News West returning to the two-presenters-at-1800 format?

I bloody well hope so. It makes the programme feel more 'friendly' than with a lone presenter.

Yes they are!

All part of Dan's new plan!

They've been having Bob and Llewela/Joanne Malin sitting at that little coffee table together but because of the new studio being built it means Bob is back on his own for the time being whilst Jo or Llewela does a news roundup from the newsroom.

I'm pretty sure it will be back to two presenters, Dan is making an exact clone of the Central News East programme with only a few changes so I would expect two presenters again. Also the fact that they were doing it before this week makes me think they are as well!

Roll on Monday!

How pleased am I?! Finally, a return to decent television news for the west midlands!

One presenter/spinning Carlton star/broom cupboard CNWest suceeded in converting me to MidTdy, then that got so cheap-and-nasty looking that I moved to UK Today (as I have Sky Digital), but I've become bored with that too (because it only has a single locked-off camera shot, so there is no variety of angles).

Well, they showed a great trailer during the last part of the show from Millennium Point tonight and it looks absolutely fabulous.

Sorry about the amount of pictures but you have to see them! Smile

Finally, here is the video, I'm sorry about the large file size. Its over 2Mb but the trailer was around 80 seconds long and I did it in a high rate so you could appreciate the picture and the sound.
