Wasn't the show tonight meant to break the barriers of broadcasting news and provide something stimulating, invigorating, and an image which mirrors Birmingham in the 21st century?
So, what happened?

My overall reaction to the new CNWest is that it's utterly fantastic. And it's certainly a big improvement on (a) the former 'broomcupboard' incarnation (b) BBC Midlands Today.
One slight area for concern is that having built their 'biggest set ever', it seems to only be the backdrop that's big. The sofa/desk area is relatively small in the middle with lots of space off to either side.
Interesting how they have a more traditional desk set-up for short bulletins. Is this next to the same screen we see off to the left of the 'at Six' studio? (i.e. they plonk a small desk by the screen most of the time, but remove it for 'at Six')?????
As I'm at college in the day, can anyone confirm that ONLY 'at Six' comes from the sofa/desk area, and that ALL other CNWest bulletins come from small desk by screen (as that's what I'm guessing)???

The short bulletins come from the old set with the old desk, but they now have a new CSO backdrop which makes it look like the new studio.
Central News at Six IS the only programme that comes from the main set at the moment, but today I got an email from Mr Barton himself, saying that they will be making more use of the main studio in the future.

on the very first show - the continuity announcer said 'now its time for our new look central news at six' - how did they manage that?
do they have the capability for subregional continuity and just not use it often?
have the other 2 regions had new looks?
or did she say it thinking those in the east and south wouldnt pay much attention?
