Am I the only one who saw this and thought ' oh here we go again'? Honestly - it's just so lazy and unimaginative.
I agree. I like the X Factor and the getting to know all the contestants (and the auditions). Theres too much "celebrity" programmes now, especially on ITV.
Celebrity shows are all over BBC1 and Channel 4 as well don't forget
True, but not as much as ITV. Channel 4 aren't too bad - mainly Celeb Big Brother.
There are numerous reports this morning saying Ant & Dec are the reason 'Pop Idol' didn't got ahead as was originally planned. With their movie out in the spring (which is apparently going down a storm with test audiences) An interview with Prince Charles and another series of their golf show on Sky One they didn't have time for it. Also we might have seen the last of 'Takeaway'. They've recorded a pilot for a big new gameshow - which if is given the go-ahead will got out in the Autumn in place of SNT.
C4 are no where near as bad as the others - they have the original celebrity show, Celebrity Big Brother (which was in fact axed only to be bought back when the other stations came up with rip-off after rip-off) and The Games, which IMO is the best celebrity reality format going.
It's all down to ITV being scared **** of Big Brother.
Celebrity X Factor is hardly original - it's not as if celebrity singing shows are new (we're already into our second of the year!).
It's a shame it's not being commissioned on merit, but instead as an attempt to steal viewers from Big Brother - which ultimately is doomed to failure.
During Celebrity Big Brother there were occassions when both the BBC and ITV were pulling in over 6 million viewers and Celeb BB was still getting over 4m - enough for C4 to call it a success!
Essentially Big Brother has a very loyal fanbase of 3-4million viewers - it's the floating viewers that make the difference, and generally there are only 2m or so of them!
Celebrity Love Island was the least original and worst thought out reality format to date and again was commissioned purely to tackle Big Brother rather than on it's own merit! And ITV aren't going to be able to use the D-list status of Rebeccas Loos and Abi Titmuss to get press coverage again this year!
I just don't understand why ITV don't play to their own strengths (rather than against C4' strongest links) and use their line up of pretty fine drama to maintain ratings over the summer.
another series of their golf show on Sky One they didn't have time for it.
That's going to be on ITV for the second series, meaning that they will be hosting it this time round.
Which is shocking. This sounds like a decent show but won't it take up much of the schedule? I didn't catch it on Sky One last year but didn't take up the whole day? :

Exactly! And dust off the gameshows again. There are simply no primetime one's left except the tiredly used Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. The last gameshow series to appear on ITV (apart from Ant and Dec's revivals and repeats) was Catchphrase with Mark Curry and of course, The Vault (hey, thats probably where all the other gameshows went ).
Its as if ITV instantly thought ..
"hmm, we're still in the 90's here with our gameshow-fest and docusoaps...lets cut down on them or scrap them completely and go celebrity mad!"
Well, you are WRONG Mr Allen. I will be looking forward to the gameshow revivals (if they still go ahead), only lets not have to rely on Ant and Dec for once.

ITV Do do comedy - maybe not as much but in a lot of cases they are successful in their own way but not commercially friendly and many last only 1 series. Therefore it seems that ITV do not do comedy, they do and they will continue to try to do comedy until they come across a very succesful one. How many BBC comedies are actually ratings friendly and succesful????????
