Doesn't mean it'll be as good... afterall you're used to US contestants. It's like comparing American Idol to Pop Idol, or Britain's Got Talent with America's Got Talent. It's never the same.

The US may have a wider pool from which to audition potential dancers, but if you think there's an inherent advantage, talent wise, to being from the States, you're mistaken.

I do wonder for how much longer the BBC can pretend the whole country is interested in Dance.

Having Delia doesn't mean they think everyone likes cooking, and having Clarkson doesn't mean they think everyone likes pompous twits.

Me, I like cooking and dance - and ok, I quite like Clarkson.

SYTYCD (as I suppose it will be called on here) is awesome though, if you like fit, flexible young men and women.

Personally I'd buy a ticket to that.

Strictly Dance Fever, Strictly Come Dancing, So You Think You Can Dance, Dance X, Move Like Michael Jackson, Let's Dance for Comic Relief ....SLIGHTLY overkill, do you not think?

That's the nature of telly - get one winning format, and along comes 12 more feeble copies.

But I don't need to tell you that! Wink

This is also true!

(and I have to say I'll probably be addicted to SYTYCD as the American version does look good, but the BBC have a habit of killing atmosphere as soon as they go on air..)

I'm a dancer myself, so I'll see what they're like. Don't worry I'll be watching! Laughing

But these show's don't have the talent as it's main lifeline, it's the personalities. And the British aren't as OTT on these programmes as the Americans are. Over there you only have to get one yes and they're nearly having heart attack from excitement. Rolling Eyes

I'm much more interested in "So You Think You Can Dance?", as the US version is excellent.

The US version isn't on the BBC though. The Apprentice aside, they don't have the best track record of adapting international formats for the UK.

Buh? Brekkie it's the same show.

Nigel Lythgoe + 2 on the panel with an identical format - auditions, then male/female pairings then individual performances. It runs for the same amount of weeks. Its got the same music and title sequence.

Have you seen either the original or the clips on the Beeb's site?

EDIT: Oh yes - same host - Cat.

What makes me laugh they got rid of Arlene from Strictly because she was too old. But then stick her on this format which targets a much younger demographic.

Which was the first sign the BBC didn't get it and just see the show as some Strictly filler. They've already stuffed up too by revealing the finalists online before the auditions go out.

Total Wipeout uses the same course as 20 other countries around the world, yet the BBC have completely stuffed that up by thinking they know best and trying to do things on the cheap, meaning whilst other countries keep the show fresh, and crucially, funny, ours is lazy and repetitive.

Now why do I have a feeling some TV exec at the BBC has read that and just gone "Bingo". Throw in raiding your attic for antiques and it's the BBC's perfect show! Very Happy

Oh, that's the BBC all over! I agree about the dance overkill and the antiques, property and cookery overkill. No wonder the country's so fat these days with so many TV programmes going on about food all the time.
