A few further points:

Arrow The winning celeb wins £50,000 - to do with what they please. Actually makes a nice change from winning for charity.

It's highly likely that whoever wins the money will donate it to charity anyway, which would most probably be the Tsunami Fund.

That's not a given at all - these aren't rich celebs (like Paul McCartney on Millionaire - they should make those celebs give a million to charity and try to win it back!). John and Germaine were both talking about how they'd like to own a racehorse, but couldn't afford it, while Kenzie can't afford to leave home.

The reason for the prize money is the tasks. The maximum prize is £50,000, but regular tasks will put the money at risk.

The housemates have received their first task - they will have to answer questions on each other, gambling on an item from that persons suitcase.

Also, gales last night destroyed the sails covering the BB garden. They have now been removed.

I agree with the charitable response to this terrible situation but i can't help feel people are going over the top and out of their way to be seen to be doing something to help - like some sort of fashion. This is all getting very tiresome and we cannot keep on pouring money into the situation, we do have our own country to run!

People have suddenly forgotten about Sudan and 'Feed the world', well, there are a lot of people in the world. May be Bob Gandolf miscounted!

I agree that other smaller charities will probably lose out due to the Tsunami appeal (though the DEC covers many charities), but in this case no money has been diverted from charity to the Tsunami appeal - the 9p donation per vote is from C4 and Endemols cut.

The original plan was 16p split between the celebs charities for each 50p vote - the same as I'm a Celeb. Nowhere near value for money IMO - both shows used to give 15p to charity for a 25p vote.

A fair point, but when you consider that they may well have signed up for this programme for the publicity anyway, I think it's reasonable to assume that they might also be seeking the publicity that would doubtless be gained by donating the £50,000 to charity.

Lol, now that would make for interesting viewing, I'd particularly like to see Rupert Murdoch taking part in that.

Um, well, I'm sure you'll agree that there is quite a difference between not being able to afford to leave home and not being able to afford to own a race horse!

Yes, I had completely forgotten about that aspect of the show, which is sad when you consider how much of my time I gave up to that last series of Big Brother...

With regards to the sails, what exactly was the point in having them there?

I was planning a really harsh response to that, but it's easier just to say that you're a complete idiot who deserves absolutely no respect whatsoever.

Go away.

To keep the "celebs" dry i suppose. They are being very evil aren't they? what with the sails to protect them from the rain, removing the grass because it would've been muddy, the sauna, a water bed...I don't know how i'd cope with such torture Rolling Eyes

Apparently one of the "celebs" partners will be joining the house in an "evil plan to spice things up" - and the chosen "celeb" knows all about this highly imaginative - and not at all copied- evil twist.

And yesterday they told us Endemol would pay £50k to the first celebs to have sex. Likely story. As for the "couple" idea - highly unlikely as I'm a Celeb did it a few weeks ago - and it didn't work at all!

Bring in 'The Booby', that's what I say!!!!!

The sails were quite nice, perhaps stopping messages getting to/from the housemates??
