C4 have released a statement - basically BB not axed, but review of editorial and compliance procedure:

The C4 statement in full, as delivered by chairman Luke Johnson:

Quote:
"The Channel 4 board recognises that the events of the last week on Celebrity Big Brother have provoked an unprecedented level of public complaint. We believe this has triggered an important debate.

"Clearly many people were worried and offended by what they saw. I want to reassure them that we take the views of our audience very seriously and profoundly regret any offence that may have been caused.

"On behalf of the board, the Chief Executive and I have commissioned a review of the editorial and compliance processes that support Big Brother. The board will receive a full report and seek to identify any lessons that can be learned for the future. The programme remains on air for a further week and the channel is focused on its completion.

"We are expecting to hear from Ofcom in the near future detailing the nature and number of complaints they have received and requesting a formal response to their questions. Our own review will also help support this process.

"All board members of Channel 4 abhor racism. We are also committed to ensuring that the channel continues to fulfil its remit to explore important social issues."

This may well see a more 'back to basics' Big Brother.

Probably not in the sense you mean - it was BB leaving the HMs to get on with things that resulted in this.

I think BB8 may have a much tighter format (which it needed regardless) so that the HMs aren't left to their own devices too often - so perhaps a return of the tasks lasting four or five days, rather than just two or three as they have in recent years.

Nothing to do with this issue at all really, but if they used it as an excuse to revamp the eviction shows I'd be more than happy!

Ok Ok we can all shut up about Jade and co. Don't give em the publicity.

Indeed, apparantly Jade has been on every programme going today, giving the same scripted apologies and answers to every question

When is she going to go away Rolling Eyes

My opinion altogether depends on which source you have pulled this information.

I would have thought she was too busy rebuilding her brand to be even contemplating such a thing.

Paradoxically her diary is now more full than ever.

Hmm.. I hope Shilpa doesn't win it by getting the 'sympathy vote'. I personally think H or Cleo would be more worthy.

Completly agree.

In fact, isn't it really more racist that Shilpa wasn't even considered a contender prior to all of last week's controversy!

You know what will happen if she does win? With all this 'racism/bulling' stuff as well, she'll be in every paper and magazine and on every possible chat show or news report, and people will start to say, 'Oh, I wish she'd go back to India'...

Politely, of course. Not in the Danielle Lloyd fashion.

...Which is what we all knew already... C4 would not even think of even for one minute to agreeing to saying yes to the axing of such a World-Wide phenommium show that brings in more money than any other show, advertisment or advertising campaign throughout the year for them! ...And anyway... BB8 Auditions would have not gone ahead if the show would have been axed... most of all if it were to be axed... we would'nt have the joy of hearing Davina saying to the housemates 'BB House... This Is Davina....' anymore! Cool Rolling Eyes Laughing
