So it's ok to compare a Jewish reporter to a concentration camp guard and not lose your job then?
Ken Livingstone is really becoming a loathsome, publicity seeking little s***. I may not have agreed with him in the past but admired his principles - now he just seems to jump on any old bandwagon.
Channel 4 produces many high-quality programmes - with Big Brother almost being there to allow them to pay for the likes of having a primetime news bulletin (a rarity nowadays). What would be his alternative? Give Murdoch a way into terrestrial television?
Both Endemol and C4 have made a bad situation out of a good ending - meaning Jade has now left the BB House. They have both kept calm throughtout the past week as it would have looked unprofessional if they had'nt done so. (Except for the Carphone Warehouse pulling their sponsorship for a few days)
I agree. I think the conduct of both Channel 4 and Endemol has been exemplary throughout this controversy, and they didn’t lose their nerve even when it looked like World War Three was going to break out. It would have been so easy to cave in to the political and public pressure being whipped up in the media, and either expel Jade or even cancel the show, but instead they let the story play out and take its natural course. Pretty courageous in my book.
Also think the programme has forced a debate on a really important issue about what constitutes racism? I’m sure we’ll never agree on whether Jade was racist or not but at least people are talking about it. I saw a bunch of school kids in my local KFC on Friday lunchtime having a really heated argument about whether Jade’s actions were racist. So I reckon Big Brother has achieved something that no government anti-racist advertising campaign or soap opera plot could ever have achieved.
Watching them make-up, I think could be a very great thing. It has demonstrated to all of the impressionable younger viewers how to make up. Jade has admitted she was in the wrong, and she hasn't spun it (too much :p).
I entirely agree that the producers and the public serivice broadcasters were exemplary. they kept to their guns, instead of chickening out, that would have been too easy.
I'm going to remember the Carphone warehouse's backout when looking at shops in their industry.
I love that dog barking sting, scene-changer thing.
but instead they let the story play out and take its natural course
err... If anything it was the polar opposite of that, but I agree it was conducted superbly.
Not sure I understand what you mean by polar opposite? They
did
let this play out - there was a phone vote, and the public decided - resulting in the eviction of one of the contestants. Isn't that what normally happens on Friday's?
Watching Harry Hill tonight - taking the bullying issuing out of it,
arguably
he was more racist than anything we saw Big Brother! (Hope you get the point I'm making there!)
Final confirmed for next Sunday, airing in a two hour block from 8pm.
In my eyes, it's all blown over now. Jade and Shilpa (the two people at the heart of this) have made-up, Jade has fully apologised, Shilpa doesn't seem affected by the incidents anymore, media interest is fizzling away and the Big Brother house is a quieter place with only a week of the game to go.
I do agree that it is a good 'achievement' of Big Brother, of all shows, to help spark a debate about "racism" and the questionable tolerance of British society. And as expected, after everyone has argued, debated and posed and answered questions till they are blue in the face, nothing has changed or will change. There will always be segregated communities, people will always 'stick to their own kind' because it is human nature...and difference will always cause problems.
In my opinion people need to have more b*lls and stop being hurt by the comments of the ignorant...because if you do, the bullies win. Life is too short to give a sh*t about the comments of "racists" and bullies. I know this is easier said than done...but I do believe it is possible to block it out.
The thought that India (in this case) takes offence at the stupid comments of afew white girls in London is mind bending. If a white bloke was bullied in India...I would see it as wrong (as I did the bullying of Shilpa), but I wouldn't be all that arsed to do anything...he has nothing to do with my life.
I think it is down to the "brothers and sisters" attitude that is present in some nations and religions. 'If one person is hurt, everyone is hurt.' I respect this, but I feel it causes problems for 'themselves' and doesn't help relations in the wider world. The thought that you put your life on hold because something has happened to a stranger with the same nationality or religion as you, or you are hurt because afew stupid people in a far off land has insulted your people/country is difficult to grasp. And feeling a sense of loyalty to a person that you don't know is not all that easy to understand. Maybe it's the selfishness/self gain/self motivated community I am from...but I think it makes life much easier if you care for the well-being of people who actually exist in your life, rather than taking the problems of strangers and the world on your shoulders.
I do not know if you agree with my outlook...but I think we can all agree that bullying and racism is wrong in any form and between any peoples. But this doesn't mean to say it is easy to create an actual diverse and multicultural society, like we are made to believe we live in, because people will always rather live around people like themselves, because people who are different are 'scary' because they are
different
...and not everyone wants to live in everyone's pockets. And this in turn leads to comments and thoughts from the various groups about 'the others' that could be deemed racist.
Jade Goody isn't racist because she isn't witty enough to channel
real
racist thoughts into comments...she is just ignorant and naive...and the comments she made illustrate this.
Anybody know why, last night, did BB place an almost identical strap over ITV News' 'Record Complaints' golden strap during the VT?
I know. How odd.
It was also odd that they used Helvetica instead of the usual BB / Channel 4 font.
If you look carefully, Jade's reaction shot DVE'd in the corner would have covered the original ITV News headline graphic so you would have seen "RD COMPAINTS" hence why they re-made it and pushed it over to the right a bit.

Have to agree here, Red Kenny seems to over react to everything, strip them of their licence indeed, just remember Kenny you could have lost your mayoral postition if it weren't for the fact you were so lucky (and the opposition so crap)
So it appears from the highlights the eviction was actually live, or at most broadcast with just a few minutes delays, with the programming referencing the eviction as being at 10.30pm.
Usually it is the highlights that give it away when they aren't live - for example last week Carole was evicted at 9.59pm IIRC. They've always been honest about it in the past, so they wouldn't change that now, whatever is happening!
All it proves is once again the media are making up their own stories. And as for Big Brother tipping them off - I think they'll find it's their own helicopters that did that!

...or maybe they just put the time on the screen to make you think that it was actually that time. (eg 9.25pm last night when we watched it on C4, but in actual fact, it could have been earlier than what they advertised on screen...!)
