They also are supposed to protect people who appear on TV as well IIRC. It used to be two bodies - the ITC mainly dealt with the broadcast issues, with the other one (B??) dealing with complaints from people appearing within shows.
Talking of HSE, I wonder how the smoking law will affect them. If it's deemed a "public" building, or place of work, the HMs will have to smoke outdoors - though I guess it could also be classed as a private residence.
BSC, Broadcasting Standards Commission, The ones who used to make the broadcasters read out long statements on air. Now part of Ofcom as you say
The ruling will be important though as it will be used as a guideline for all future reality tv shows and indeed what the defintion of racism or bullying is on any tv programme
As mentioned...The trouble is there are so many rulings, guidelines, complaints now that I don't know if there is much more they can do with future series. They have certainly toned down the way the physical tasks are carried out compared to BB3 and the Saturday night live task shows.
Nowadays we're reduced to twist after twist and once people get bored of these then the show has nowhere else to go which is currently how its becoming. Nothing seems original anymore.
Obviously they wanted Jade and her family to go in to create a stir but they clearly weren't expecting the racism issue. C4/Endemol love the publicity but, yes, this has blown up in their faces.
I think Big Brother 8 (or 9 if they are moving out of Elstree then) should, as mentioned above, be given a bit of revamp. By all means keep the theme tune and the eye etc but in terms of the programme itself, get back to basics like Big Brother 1 (coming up to 8 years now. ) or try a Big Brother 3 sort of thing.
One thing to add about Davina, or the script writer to be more precise, but I think the final line was arguably the real statement of the night, from the producers at least:
"If you want to audition for Big Brother 8..."
That was a pure statement of defiance against the short-sighted idiots trying to get the show, and even the channel, pulled!
I hate it when people say "pull the show / channel" if you don't like it just don't watch
The sad truth is it doesn't matter what good programmes C4 put out after CBB finishes there are some people who won't watch C4 (ever again ) because of what's happened in the house this year
If there are people like that, then it is their loss!

It is interesting, because (regulator-wise), they split the General Post Office up, into smaller regulators and now they've put the rgulators back together, in an even bigger monster that the G.P.O. had. I know that the actual services (as opposed to th eir regulation) have now been privatised.
Actually, the HSE is next door to OFCOM.
Ahhh! Why, why, why do the bird noises, they were talking about ghosts or somethingvery interesting, and bang, tweet, tweet . . . oh it's stopped now! {/rant}

Yep, they don't play musical chairs anymore!
Always makes me laugh when you watch the BBUK tasks with the HMs in helmets, kneepads etc. - then go and watch BBUSA - in the land of the lawsuit - where you find them suspended feet above the crowd without even a crash mat!
Re: BB8 - back to basics itself wouldn't work, but it's definately a case of back to the drawing board.
IMO the solution is to forget the idea of twist after twist after twist as we've had in the last couple of years.
Instead, you have one or two big twists which are major changes to the rules and format, twists which apply week in week out and unveil themselves as time goes on.
I also think the production of the show seriously needs looking at - the eviction shows are no where near as slick as they were in the first four years (I was looking forward to tonights as I thought Davina would be in the studio, where she is far better than amongst the crowd!).
Marcus needs to be toned down also - every year he seems to be an even worse parody of himself!
The other main issue from a production point of view is the Saturday show. Whether live task, omnibus or a daily episode, every year the Saturday show has attracted around half the viewers of the weekday shows, so it needs looking at.
IMO the highlights from Friday are pointless as they just lead up to an event we saw live 24 hours earlier. I'd either like the live task to return, but fronted by Davina (or Dermot) as a proper show, not just a live stream, or the return of the omnibus - perhaps airing first on E4 and then later on C4, giving C4 the opportunity to show something else in primetime once a week.
How about just having a more upbeat & funny BB like BB1, 2 & 3.
Alot of people quote these three series as their faves so why not do something simular to those.
Also stop adding housemates constantly. If you must add any just one housemate as an extra (if someone walks out then obviously replace them) and make the BB voice more human, I still liked how the Diary room was in BB1 where although it sounded unprofessional they did at least talk to the housemates like normal people.
Also give the housemates something to do instead of prolonged sunbathing, bring back the chickens if need be but get them to do something at least
What about one of them being a mole, or someth but the public don't know either, or putting one housemate in a house of moles for a few weeks! Or a group of housemates with a majority of moles.
Or a house of moles, and onesemate, but the moles, dont' know whothe genuine housemate is, and the nominations are the moles trying to guess thgenuine housemate, and the moles gni priviledges if they get nominated y the genuine housemate, whoever they are.

I wonder where they would go if/when they leave Elstree?
Perhaps a custom set up or another studio complex?
BB must use a lot of studio space (far more than it did at the beginning) with the house, walkway, bblb, bbbm plus all the production facilities.
They should move into my c4 logo-shaped house :p!
I enjoyed the series , when it was all harmonious.
There are other studios - Pinewood seems a good place for Big Brother - quite isolated, but the only problem is there might be the odd explosion when they film things like James Bond.
Of course they could also go to a purpose built site.
Re: future of BB - I don't think the main series will have too many problems, but it's going to be more difficult now for them to attract "celebrities" for the winter series. It's possible there won't be a series next year anyhow (due to relocation), but the new deal extending it for three further year (BB9-BB11) does include celebrity series as well.
Then again, last year's house was full of alleged bullies and alleged bullying, so it might not be an issue at all.
In a way I'd like to see a return to them casting celebrities which fit more into the usual BB HM profile (i.e. under 30!) - but on the other hand I think Celeb BB has benefitted from having a far more diverse cast than just a bland group of soapstars or models!
It also makes any "All Star" or "Champions of Champions" series slightly less likely - though I guess alot of former HMs have less to lose than Jade Goody.
