Her interviewing has nothing to do with the crowd's. She was equally as appalling on that awful chat show. Rolling Eyes

Celeb Big Brother In Racism Probe
Monday January 15, 03:53 PM

The TV watchdog has received 200 complaints from viewers that Bollywood star Shilpa is the victim of racist bullying.

Ofcom has reported the new troubles following the show's plummeting ratings and the walkout of three celebrities.

The Indian beauty was branded a "dog" by disgraced former Miss Great Britain Danielle who blamed Shilpa for Carole's eviction on Friday night.

Both Danielle and Jo have imitated Shilpa's Indian accent, while Jade's evicted mum Jackiey dubbed her "The Indian" and refused to learn how to pronounce her name.

Some fans have been upset by what they believe is racist behaviour and have been voicing their concerns on internet forums.

Housemate Jermaine thinks that Jade's gang - including JO and Danielle - are jealous of her and Ian told him he thought the house was turning into Lord of the Flies.

A Big Brother insider said if producers thought there was abuse, bullying or racism going on, they would take a very serious view. But anti-racism campaigners are demanding BB bosses take action if it is proved Shilpa has been the victim of racially-motivated abuse.

Good. I hope something is done about it. I've seen some horrible scenes and the way they just let it happen is disgraceful.

It's a difficult one - I think sometimes they have probably crossed the line, but also alot of the time people refer to things as racism because they involve a non-white "victim" - when in fact it's a personal argument, not based on race.

It's also one I don't really see how they can criticise producers for - if someone uses racist language or racially attacks a housemate in the house, IMO the nature of the programme means they've got a duty to show it.

It's a far bigger scandal if they cover it up - that way they really would be condoning it!

But this is a race issue. They have been taking the piss out of her voice, moaning about her curry powder cooking and not forgetting Jackieys outspoken manner 'Whatevaa ya name izz' and calling her The Indian. I do hope Shilpa wins, she deserves to putting up with the evil twisted minds of Jo, Jade and her crew.

There have been several ocassions where 'the girls' have bitched about, called and confronted Shilpa over silly matters. Is this racism...or just that the two parties are different colour/nationality? In tonight's episode 'the girls' argue with Shilpa over how she's cooking a chicken. Are the previous arguments and the 'chicken disagreement' "just" bullying or racially motivated bullying or just normal disagreements? It's hard to say...but I wonder if Jackiey and 'the girls' would act in the same manner if Shilpa was a 'white' housemate? And for Jackiey's "the Indian" remark...is this just naivity? Confused .

I'm glad meembers here are agreeing finally Shilpa has become the victim of racially motivated bullying. It doesn't have to be direct racial taunts, it can be just as bad in the way the girls are doing, in that they are indirect and suggest things. Especially Jo, I was disgusted the way she impersonated her voice.

But they are trying their damnedest to gloss over it. The very first thing Jackiey said in her interview was "That Indian jarred my head". Of though course Davina being Davina completely ignored it and continued to smile and laugh at her as if what she was saying was cute and endearing. Rolling Eyes Dave Gorman brilliantly brought it up on BBLB yesterday - much to Dermot's embarrassment who was clearly cringing because someone dared to say it. He quickly changed the subject.

yes that was great wasn't it?
it's not the first time racism has reared it's head on the show is it - how comes it never crops up on any other reality TV programme? I suppose it was always a risk when they decided to put people like Jade, (who people forget was repulsive on BB3) and her mother in the house.

when did it become racist to impersonate someone's voice. its something other housemates have done of each other. i can't remember exactly what they said, something to do with dirk probably. if they had of said "99 pence please, do come again" or "bud bud ding ding" then you may have a point - but i do not think you can demonise people as racist simply because they did an impression of someones accent.

i think shilpa is a thoroughly dislikable person, very much up her own snatch - so its unsurprising that the other housemates are keeping their distance.

Sorry to post this as my first post, but I'm not a regular here and was compelled to sign up when I read this.

I can't speak for any of the others, but as a personal friend of Jo's, I can assure you she'd be horrified at people suggesting she's racist. I have never once heard or seen racism from Jo.

I saw the video of Jo impersonating Shilpa's voice and I don't think it's racist - most certainly not intentionally . She was pointing out that Shilpa whinges in high pitches tones to get her own way - she was making a point about Shilpa's childish way of talking when she wants something, not her accent in general.

There's a video on Youtube of Jo dressed up as Cleo, and she impersonates her voice there too. Is that racism as well?

Also, if Shilpa had a Newscastle accent, or a Liverpudlian accent, would you be calling Jo racist for imitating it? Jo's had her Essex accent mocked many a time too, so she can take what she dishes out - so to speak.

Jo may not particularly like Shilpa, I can't really speak on her behalf, but I know that if Jo doesn't Shilpa, it's not because Shilpa is Indian.

Secondly, and this is totally my opinion because I don't know Jackiey:

I also saw Jackiey's eviction night, and I'm not convinced that was racism either. Firstly, Shilpa is Indian, so calling her "that Indian" shouldn't be racist. We know Jackiey had problems remembering Shilpa's name, and it's obvious that Jackiey isn't that bright. If Jackiey had been talking about Ian, she could have said "the gay one", or if talking about Leo she could have said "the guy with the curly hair". I don't think she was being racist.

"Indian" is not a racist term.

In regards to her name, "Shilpa" is a name I'd never heard of until Big Brother, and perhaps Jackiey was in the same position. Plus, if she didn't get on with Shilpa, she's unlikely to have spoken to her much in the house. And when they did talk to one another, I doubt she'd have said "Sorry to be rude, I've forgotten your name, could you remind me what it is?"

I used to live with a girl called Evdokiya, and when I first met her it took me at least a week to get her name right. Not because I was being racist, but because it's difficult to pronounce, not a name I'd come across before and I didn't see her that often.

Taking the piss out of someone's voice isn't neccessarily racism - and you are probably stereotyping over the curry powder.

Jackiey - for me, it wasn't acceptable to call her the "Indian" - but then again, would you even bring it up if it had been someone like Carole referred to as the "Geordie".

Conclusion - it's not racism, it's bullying!

So that's all right then! Confused

Hopefully the nominations system will see natural justice done - though it be very interesting to see which way the voting went if it was Shilpa vs Danielle.
