Just after Brian handed us to the break, we were shown a little trailer with the title saying, 'Big Brother continues in 7 days!' I didn't understand. A) Because the final is on Thursday, and B) Because it showed an unfamiliar face.

EDIT: Looking at the TV guide, next Friday is the regular Big Brother launch night!

I didn't see the trailer but it seems that this series of Big Brother finishes next Thursday and the new one starts the very next day. See also Pointless and The Chase which have ended a series and started a new one straight away recently.

I'm predicting the lowest launch figures ever for a civilian series launch.

I'm predicting the lowest launch figures ever for a civilian series launch.

They're obviously hoping that high viewing figures for the CBB final will carry over onto the BB12 launch the following evening.

And Channel 5 will still be pleased with them.

Is it a 12 week Big Brother then to follow the 'celebrity' version ?

The celeb version always gets a ratings boost, and there was the curiousity of how C5 would handle it. But if BB is now to become a permanent fixture until Nov / Dec when the likes of ITV / BBC have their autumn big guns out, I think it will fizzle out.

It's a summer 'event'.

The main series will only run for 8 or 9 weeks (think it ends Nov 11th). Wise to cut it from 13 weeks, but think they've gone a bit too far IMO - 11 weeks or so is about right.

On Bit on The Side, Brian said it was 10 weeks and more than 12 contestants.

I think CBB has shown the attitude to the number of contestants hasn't changed - they'll throw in enough contestants to make sure they're still in double figures until just a couple of weeks to go. That has been a huge problem with BB for me in recent years as having so many contestants essentially robs viewers of the final phase of the show when numbers really do dwindle and HMs are forced to interact with people they've avoided for the previous six weeks.

The idea you need more HMs in the final week to make it more entertaining has never washed with me - BB3 had just 4 in their final week and that week 7m were watching most nights, and even a decade on I remember much more from the final weeks of BB1-3 with just 3 or 4 HMs than I do the latter series which had up to 7 HMs.

It's absolutely ridiculous this series of CBB has had just one round of normal nominations and that 7 out of 10 contestants make it through to the final.

The last Celebrity Big Brother had the right idea with every eviction being a double eviction. If they did the same again they could have got rid of 6 people leaving 4 for the final. Its been an OK series, not as good as the last celebrity one, but I'm looking forward to see what they plan to do for BB12.

Slight surprise to see Paddy win.
