After the thread in the summer, I thought there would be a fair bit of interest in this show returning.

Quote:
Celebrity Big Brother returns to Channel 4 this winter, with a new group of notable housemates ready to put themselves on display in Britain's most famous TV house.

After a break from viewers' screens, the daddy of reality shows returns for what could be the most unpredictable and unforgettable few weeks of the celebrities' lives.

How will housemates cope with giving up the trappings of a showbiz life for a communal bedroom and a shared bathroom? Will the famous faces be up to the tasks and challenges that Big Brother throws at them?

Presenter Davina McCall presides over the live launch night and evictions, but, as ever, the true power lies with viewers when it comes to deciding who stays and who goes.

Further details will be announced nearer to transmission, with celebrity housemates announced on the day they enter the house.

The best move they ever did was rest it for a year. Last year I was quite annoyed that it wasn't going to be on but this year I'm looking forward to it more than I have ever either series.

Rumours of who is to enter include Verne Troyer, Ian Wright, Mutya Buena and Whitney Houston.

LET IT DIE! Things like this just tarnish the C4 image, I mean it is widely agreed that C4 News is high-brow and then the whole channel is dirtied by this rubbish.

I know some people like it, but it's 10years old now, this should be the big send-off. I assumed that Dead Set was part of a goodbye package, so I hope this is the last CBB and next year, the last ever series of BB.

That was not a rant.

Well it is a 10th anniversary of the show and its viewing figures have slowly fallen, so I thought 4 would hype up the final series with programmes on a theme and then get rid. I just think it's time for it to go, IMO it should have been pulled long ago.

In a way I hope they have some cataclysmic cock-up on it again this time like the Goody/Shetty thing and Ofcom kill it off.

Channel 4 struggle without it and its one of their biggest shows. The head of Channel 4 has recently compared it to their version of Eastenders. People forget that 3-4m is very good for Channel 4 because those figures are usually a flop for the bigger channels. And for the cost, the amount of airtime and the amount of viewers it pulls in (especially those 16-34 year olds where the show ends up in the top 3 daily) it provides Channel 4 with a hell of a lot of money. Its not going anywhere and has been signed until at least BB11 (summer 2010).

That really is the height of schadenfreude. What were you hoping for? Date-rape or a fire in the house?

CBB is a ratings winner for them. Resting it was more about ensuring it could come back - even though it was portrayed as an act of contrition.

No it isn't, it won't be on for 2 months at the earliest, what exactly is there to discuss? It's like those saddos on Digital Spy's BB forum who discuss BB all year round as if they can't cope without the programme

I think he means 'It's Back' from its little break and is informing people of that fact as soon as it is released.

If you look at it that way (cost of production, high figures for C4 average), I suppose it is a nice little cash cow for Channel 4. I just think that the format is too old, and if it is to continue, they should spice it up with things like 'Celebrity Hijack' only better.

At the end of the day, if Channel 4 decided to not renew the rights to BB, ITV or Sky would be there within seconds bidding to get them instead. The series is still immensely popular, encouraging lots of people to watch everyday, which advertisers love. Yes, the ratings have dropped over the last few years, but it's still one of C4's most consistant high rating programmes, and pulls in the advertisers, probably unlike anything else they show.

If they continue to tweak the format every year (perhaps more than they have in the last couple of years which seems to have been "oh, what can we do different?", "add more contestants?", "yup! that'll do it!") the series could run indefinately.

Well, what is there to discuss about ITV when it's predominantly crap all year round, as if you can't cope without ITV?

Not sure where you keep getting the figure of 10 from. This will be the 6th Celebrity Big Brother over a period of 8 years.

As opposed to the saddos who sit and discuss nothing worthwhile here on TV Forum? Wink I don't really think anyone who goes on a website such as this, DS etc can call anyone sad for discussing something that isn't on TV atm.

There is a lot of interest about Big Brother on this forum and news/rumours will be released over the next month or so, so theres actually plenty to discuss.
