That's as maybe but I watched him several times doing dances with old ladies and holding them in some embarrassing positions with their knickers showing. Never could stand the man although others found him popular. I feel slightly sorry for him but his behaviour drove a lot of his fans away. Not the fact that he was gay because lots of people are and I love watching Paul O'Grady and Julian Clary; but becaue he was involved in one tawdry incident after another. I felt so sorry for his wife during it because he just didn't seem to care how his behaviour was affecting her.

If you're referring to the time when he admitted he was gay and that he wanted a divorce, it must have been difficult for him aswell.
Having to admit to himself something that you wont initially like, but be one hell of a blow.

That's true and the press certainly didn't help, I'm surprised they didn't drive him to suicide. I think they wanted it deep down to sell newspapers. But even after all that there were the stories in the News Of the World about sleeping with Paul Burrell and one or two other incidents that's what really irritated me about him. He knew he was gay for a longtime and yes he must have been worried about it going to the press, but he could have behaved so much better. That was just out and out sleazy what he did. That behaviour and the circumstances around Stuart Lubbock's death polarized opinion on him.

Paul O'Grady is gay but he didn't act in a way that pi$$ed people off, if anything he has endeared himself to the general public. Some people will always hate homosexuality but when he did come out he still had goodwill from the public and that was reflected at the National Television Awards, but his behaviour after that lost him a large number of fans.

It's just how people make out that his 'coming out' was only hard on his wife... I'm pretty sure it was for him aswell!

Can you imagine having to break that to your wife, a wife that you've been with for 8 years! It's not something he'll have wanted to admit to himself...

...hense him staying with her, hoping that it wasn't the case.

Yes it's hard but you can still act in a better way. I just don't like sleazy behaviour I put Barrymore's behaviour up there with that prat Pete Doherty and the thuggishness of Liam Gallagher.

After Barrymore came out and after the Lubbock business why do the story with the News Of The World? He probably sold the story because he needed the money but my God that was just bad PR for him.

Oh yes and another thing about Barrymore was that the questions were put to him about the incident and he NEVER answered them. The family of Stuart Lubbock willnever know the truth. There's only one thing that makes the murder of a loved one worse and that is not finding the person responsible. To be honest I don't think Lubbock can be removed from all blame either. What was he doing going over there when I think he was married? And what was the comment I heard coming out of the trial about 'he must have gotten the injuries form jumping into the pool.' Give me a break!! Rolling Eyes

On a different note I'm not sure somebody in an emotional state like that should go into the Big Brother environment

It makes me laugh how the father is slating Channel4/Endamol for including a swimming pool...

...I take it we're not a Big Brother viewer then! Laughing

There's a lot of bitterness and hate in that family towards Barrymore, which I suppose is understandable. But they are making themselves look really bad in my opinion.

Extremly.. and The Sun and it's reader are lapping it all up aren't they!

Including logo's on their site like this isn't helping his case:

Oh my God that really is pathetic!! I think Barrymore should say what happened on the night and the family I think should move on; but we know that these things aren't going to happen don't we? And Channel 4 doesn't mind how they get publicity do they? Rolling Eyes

Well if you read Channel 4's 'about' section on the website:
http://www.channel4.com/microsites/F/foia/one.html

Then you will realise that:
Quote:
'Under the Communications Act 2003, Channel 4 has a duty to provide high quality innovative programming that is experimental, creative and appeals to the tastes and interests of a culturally diverse society.'

So contoversy fits in well I think. I just hope that everyone gives him a chance and doesn't give him a bad name before he even finishes day one in the house.
But if The Sun keep bringing up old news and dirt from his past, he wont stand a chance. Lets face it, to most people The Sun is gospel!

Lord help us!! Between this show and Soapstar Superstar I wonder about this country I really do. I hope Life On Mars does us all a favour on Monday and blows these shows out of the water.
