I just watched the Paxman interview with a representative of Galloways's Repect party.

Irrespective of my personal views on Galloway in the Big Brother house, I thought Paxman was utterly appalling. He let some ar$e in New York command the entire interview. I've never witnessed such a diabolically biased and one-sided interview in my life.

It didn't help that the man from Respect was a feeble idiot, but I found myself wondering if I was watching Fox News.

It's not Paxmans or the programme's fault if the person from Respect was 'feeble' and they can't give him an easier time because of it. Everyone knows what Paxman is like and Galloway's people do normally give as good as they get

The other guest, Christopher Hitchins, is Galloways biggest critic - they have a very long history (a very heated and entertaining debate the 2 of them in New York a while back was broadcast in full on Radio 4) On at least 1 occasion Paxman did play devils advocate, regarding the lack of evidence for some of Galloway's mis-doings now that they'd been disproved in court again.

Paxman dismissed the court's findings out of hand and suggested that we'd "find out the truth" after an appeal.

Whilst it is Paxman's job to grill both interviewees, it certainly isn't his job to relay questions from the other party.

And knowing what Paxman is like, why did he allow Hitchin to talk uninterrupted for the entire duration of the interview?

It was so one sided I actually called and made a complaint - something I'm not prone to doing.

Anyhoo - Pete to win.

He can play devils advocate - put one question to one side and then ask the opposite to the other.

Because in your words; he was a 'feeble idiot'

Apparantly C4 News are not too happy about Paxman's appearance on CBB last night : from Media Monkey at MediaGuardian:

And now the Channel 4 news ... with Jeremy Paxman
We never thought we would see someone as serious as Newsnight's Jeremy Paxman on Celebrity Big Brother but, nevertheless, on the glorious televisual gala that was George Galloway's eviction, there he was in all his alpha masculinity. Okay, so Paxo was not physically in the BB jacuzzi but Monkey was still surprised when Davina McCall, in the midst of interviewing the shell-shocked Galloway, went over to the great interrogator at the Newsnight desk. The big beast of BBC News managed to reprise his election night heaping of scorn on Galloway, asking, "Do you really think going into the Big Brother house was a good idea?" Jaws dropped all over the place, not least at Channel 4 News, who might reasonably have thought that the task of injecting a serious news element into proceedings should have fallen to one of their own. Dark clouds are gathering at C4 News headquarters on Gray's Inn Road, tempered by the ghastly thought that their brethren in C4 entertainment might think that Mr Paxman carried more gravitas (or showbiz) than C4 News's own living legend Jon Snow.

It was my first thought too - even if Jon Snow hadn't done it, Krishnan Guru Murphy would have - he's a big BB fan who often appears on BBLB / Big Mouth.

Anyhow, no surprises last night - but I'm disapointed at the scheduling of six finalists! Six back to back interviews, rushed interviews at that, isn't going to make the best finale! Four always seems to many as it is!

It's annoying they couldn't have scheduled the evictions properly - or dropped the number of HMs accordingly. Surely it doesn't take that much planning once you know how many days the show runs for.

It also means an end to nominations just as they were getting interesting - plus stops the chance for HMs to reform relationships, especially after the loss of two big characters in George and Dennis.

But Jon Snow and Galloway have no real history of note, as far as I know. The point was not to get a "news face" to ask him a question - the point was to get Jeremy Paxman to! The fact is, Paxo isn't Galloway's favourite person - if anyone has seen their famous interview from election night, you will know that George stormed off, refusing to continue. It had nothing to do with gravitas or showbiz - it just wouldn't have had the same poignance had someone from C4 News featured instead.
