Well, Channel 4 news have just reported an 'ITV source' as saying that execs are considering cutting the shows run from 5 to 2 weeks!!! Now, maybe this is just Ch4 trying to rubbish CLI as they dont want the competition with BB, but I seriously doubt ITN would just falsify a report to boost their customers ratings. So, it looks like my prediction was right - I said this format wouldnt last and wouldnt last its full course. Now, if I can see that, as well as others on here, why couldnt the ITV comissioners instead of steam rollering into another ratings disaster!

Since when have they started talking about ratings of a TV reality show, sounds a bit tabloid, what context was it in?

It was more of an analytical look at the genre as a whole, asking if the 'reality tv' phenomenon is finally dying. Various talking heads were on all agreeing that it isnt the genre itself, just 'celebrity reality' that is on its way out. Quotes were taken from the tabloids, all of which critisised the programme strongly, and views of people on the street were also taken ('crap','boring' and 'they arent celebrities' is what was shown). I wouldnt say it was tabloid, but it was very unexpected especially on Ch4 news!

but reality tv with normal people is still going strong, sounds a bit convenient that they came to that conclusion!

Here Here. It's Boring, predictable, tacky and doesn't even get a very good audience. Just when will ITV realise that reality is dying?
Sad thing is, I don't even give it a chance anymore. Like many people on this thread, if it has "Celebrity" in the title - I'll go and watch something on Discovery Channel. Who are those so called celebs anyway?

I think ITV should have a new show entitled - "I'm a Continuity Announcer - get me out of here"
They could all be stuck in a voice booth - decked out like a jungle - trying to 'outdo' each others continuity links - the worse link gets voted out by the great un-washed - what do you think????
Question is - who would you put in the Jungle voice booth?

I urge people not to watch Celebrity Love Island. I think just knowing Rebecca Looser has married her girlfriend for 'another' reality TV show should be enough to lure people away from this TRIPE! Mad

And don't ITV just love branding this show like its a new TV phenomenom! Grrr!


The only thing I recommend watching on ITV at the moment is The Paul O'Grady show, the freshest and best thing on TV at the moment! I aint even attempting to watch CLI. Hells Kitchen is good, so was Survivor, but not this, and I hardly recognize the names of most of these "Celebs".

The funny thing is, on the official CLI site, where I have posted the programmes axing (from Ch4 News) is that the mods on the board, despite their efforts, cant stop me from suggesting the series has been axed. Ive made reference to the fact that ITN is part owned by ITV, so its a pretty reliable enough source, and secondly, if they deny these reports, they are effectivly calling an ITN journalist a liar, and therefore, are indirectly saying that ITN (and indeed ITV News) cant be trusted.

So you are saying Channel 4 News have said it's been axed?

How can any decision have been made like that, it only started on Monday (or Sunday if you believe Media Guardian!), there's only 3 episodes of ratings available so far!

Celebrity love island is boring
especially as itv had it on before the 1030 news and also after it at 1100, as if 30 mins of watching so called celebrities wasnt enough!

All im saying is exactly what Ch4 news have said. Their reporter said that a very reliable source at ITV has said executives are considering shortening the programmes run from 5 weeks down to 2. Now if a programme doesnt run for what was advertised initially, I would consider than being axed. I dont know if the report was 100% correct, but I dont think an ITN journalist would make something like this up to harm an ITV programme, considering that ITN and ITV are so inextricably linked, and ITV is such an important customer for ITN. Whatever Ch4's views are on the programme, I doubt they would allow their feelings to make an impact on the integrity of Ch4 News when it has such a high reputation.

The thing with Fool Around though it's an honest format. They make no pretence that the contestants are looking for love - it's just a game show in which one person has to identify the true single to win a cash prize.

Celebrity Love Island is being promoted on the premise of celebs falling in love with each other - when in truth this doesn't come into it. It's viewers votes that decide the outcome, and there is a cash prize at the end (though some of the so-called celebs have been paid more than the prize just to appear)
