It's useful when you need to know something quickly as a means of accessing information, but I think it is fast becoming obsolete because of the internet, and particularly Media Center PC's

I haven't used Ceefax or Teletext in a good number of years. Actually, I haven't really used any of this BBCi malarkey at all.

Nowadays Ceefax/Teletext is slower than the internet, but it's still much easier to use than the internet in some respects, especially for local things like flight times, weather etc. I don't want it going anywhere just yet!

I don't believe it is becoming obsolete - I'm using it as much now as I've ever done... even reverting back to analogue to check out "the regulars", P.101, 160, 501. The there's TV Plus on ITV, whose accuracy in reporting is sometimes a little questionable.

Even so, nothing, in my view, comes close to replacing good, old-fashioned teletext!

Considering I switched to Digital a few years ago, I do miss Teltext on ITV and Channel 4 as it provided a useful service, but there's no replacement for them on NTL, so I either have to put a lump of metal into the Aerial socket in the TV (I've got no aerial) in order to get a decent reception, or use my parents TV that still has an Analogue signal. I like TV Plus very much, compared to the old service they used to have on NTL, the Analogue service was faster.

As for Ceefax, sadly hardly missed, you can pratically get everything and more via BBCi and bbc.co.uk, though its not as fast, it's very easy to access and provides more information and clearly. Though it'll always be on BBC Two at 3.00am at Weekends if I need it. Laughing

It's unfortunate Ceefax is no longer actively promoted on air; the 30th anniversary in September revealed just how much the public continues to value Ceefax in spite of newer technologies. What Ceefax desperately could do with is a new look, however.

Luckily Channel Television still promote their local teletext services very strongly on television. I think I see an advert for it at least once a day, normally after local news.

I might as well pop this in here rather than creating a new thread. Here in the East. If I go to P603 on Ceefax, one of the fastext options says "Redirect" which is on the yellow button. If you press it, the fastext link takes you to P590 but after several spins around the 500s, ultimately it gets no where. Persuambly as there is no page 590. Does the page actually exist on any other of the BBC regions?

My Mum and Dad still use Teletext/Ceefax. We have a great analogue signal, and lucky for us, Telewest Digital still carries text.

The digital version of Teletext is always to slow (on interactive). We're sticking with normal teletext until one day it'll get shut down. Sad

Strange. Good old P198 is available on BBC2 down here...some sort of test page.
