So I read on Digital Spy that CBS have teamed up with the ZONE channels and will be launching 6 CBS branded stations in the UK. What is everyone's opinion on this?? Another US network on UK screens will they last? Look at what happened to ABC 1! ESPN seems to be doing OK and NBC Europe is that still broadcasting anywhere in the ether?
I give it six months before the channels start closing one by one.
I don't see the channels closing down, they're re-branding established channels which have survived thus far. I think the US networks have realised after ABC1 failed to get off the ground the best way to get their names in the UK is by teaming up/re-branding existing services.
NBC are supposedly considering re-branding Hallmark too.
Looking at the evening schedules for FIVE, technically we (sort of) already have a UK version of CBS.
Most of FIVE's prime-time schedules consists of mostly CBS shows, NCIS, all the CSI variants, and
more recently, The Mentalist. All they need is the late night talk shows hosted by David Letterman
and Craig Ferguson, plus some of CBS's sitcoms and the Evening News program to seal the deal!
NBC Europe is that still broadcasting anywhere in the ether?
The original NBC Europe that replaced Super Channel ceased to be in mid 1998, although CNBC Europe is still on the air alive and well. But as said NBC Universal are considering rebraning their channels to match the US and European counterparts, so it's quite likely the Hallmark name and Movies 24 are to go.
Good to see CBS giving it a go in this country, I'm always surprised that Fox have never given it a go properly, I apperciate Sky takes up most of their content and they also have FX in the UK, but i would have thought that there would be room for a Fox branded service.

There'd be little point in branding stuff Fox when their (half-)sister company is so much better known over here, I don't really see what advantage it would give them
