The CBeebies Channel (Freeview 71, Sky 617, Virgin 702).
Otherwise known in my scheme of things as B6 (just let that drop, I don't want to discuss / explain that point any further here).

Now that my Boogie Beebies thread, which I launched last weekend, doesn't appear to have gone down too well, here's a thread more in keeping with the realm of this whole forum (TV presentation), a thread about CBeebies presentation.

In other words, the multitude of bits and pieces between the programmes on CBeebies. There's loads of things.

Before the start
5:30 - 6am: looping trailer featuring clips of different CBeebies characters (Fimbles, Tweenies etc), along with the song "With a wiggle and a giggle the CBeebies way".

The day begins
6am Official opening. Ident and song.

Between programmes
Next trailer (related to the programme due to come next)
Trailer for some other programme
Ident
Presenter saying /doing something (a kind of continuity announcement)
Programme begins.

Bedtime Hour
18:00 Start of the Bedtime Hour (special purple ident).

Around 18:50: bedtime story

18:56 Goodnight song, followed by "Night Night" slide. That used to be pink, but has been green for some time.

18:57 On Freeview CBeebies loses control of its AV stream on mux B. The same stream passes to BBC4 (B4) about a minute later. It's a similar story on Sky, if you leave your Sky digibox on CBeebies (617), you suddenly get the box "There is a technical fault with this channel", so I guess CBeebies must lose the Sky transponder at that time.

Now just a reminder, this thread is to discuss the PRESENTATION on CBeebies. In other words the bits between the programmes NOT the individual programmes themselves. Please remember that.

is that BBC CHANNEL 6?

Officially no, but on Freeview the order of the BBC TV channels is as follows:
1 BBC One
2 BBC Two
7 BBC Three
9 BBC Four
70 CBBC Channel
71 CBeebies
80 BBC News 24
81 BBC Parliament.

So you see, on Freeview you could argue CBeebies is the sixth BBC channel. On Sky the order is different, but regardless of the platform, I still sometimes refer to CBeebies as B6.

Now let's get on with discussing the PRESENTATION on CBeebies, i.e. the trailers, idents and continuity announcements between the programmes, and of course the goodnight song.

I've always liked the presentation on CBeebies - credits played out in full, followed by a clear Next/Then promo and then the trailers.

They say they can't do that with regular channels because it won't hold the viewers attention - but if it holds the attention of 5 year olds, that argument is pretty weak!

Just out of interest of topic slightly but can somebody tell me why CBeebies starts at 6 while CBBC starts at 7?

Maybe because you can stick the baby in front of the telly if it wakes up early?

Whereas older children will wake up later.

Not until they're 12 or 13 though (which is a little outside their target market).

Young children will wake up as early as they can, which isn't surprising since they go to bed earlier. But that's not a very technical reason - either way, it's a kid's channel and I daresay the difference between the two is neglible.

Does anyone know who sings the Goodnight song on CBeebies (B6) each evening these days. Now they only have one male presenter singing it, along with a sequence of pictures of characters from CBeebies programmes (Tweenies, Teletubbies etc). Who is the singer?

You should know considering you know so much about the channel with a perverted tendency and considering it starts with the guy (Chris Jarvis) on screen at the start and end singing.

Well contrary to what you might think (or wish), I am NOT able to put names to the presenters who appear between the programmes on CBeebies (B6).

Anyway, what's wrong with me monitoring the presentation on CBeebies (B6)? No different to monitoring the pres on the other BBC channels, i.e. BBC One (B1), BBC Two (B2), BBC Three (B3), BBC Four (B4), CBBC (B5), BBC News 24 (B7) and BBC Parliament (B8 ). Or the other broadcasters' channels (ITV, Channel 4 Television, Channel 5 Broadcasting, UKTV, Sky etc).

For your info, I've collected a load of "circles" idents on B1. As far as B2 goes, I collected a load of yellow idents just before the February changeover, including the outgoing montage, and just about every programme junction on day one of the new B2 idents. Next I want to collect the Blobs on B3, and the "four panes" ones on B4. In order to assemble a complete collection of BBC pres on video, you need to collect from all eight BBC TV channels, and that including their two kids' channels CBBC (B5) and CBeebies (B6).
