So Three and Four have HD DOG's, so how come there isn't a BBC News HD box when the titles end and the camera starts to pan the newsroom?
VM
The graphics and studio output of BBC News will have been all in HD since the move to New Broadcasting House, so now the SD channel will be a downscaled version of the HD channel.
Basically like BBC One and Two there will only be one version of BBC News, and so adding a HD tag would mean SD viewers would see it too.

Presumably they felt it was viable to maintain two separate versions of their output in order to promote use of the HD service and promote Sky HD subscriptions by giving it distinctive features designed for large HD TVs.

By having a different setup for playing out the channel. All of the graphics went through (presumably at least) 2 Viz setups - one outputting SD and one HD.

No change to the DOG on BBC Four SD. If we have to have a DOG, why can't it be as faint as the HD version?

However it's so faint, that it looks like a smudge on the screen, so in fact it's a double whammy
in my view, ineffective as a DOG because you can't read it, AND irritating because it looks like a blemish most of the time

The first programme on ITV3 HD was On The Buses
Quite ironic that the first programme (excluding 60 Seconds) on BBC Three HD is Winter Wipeout.... that's not in HD!

Quite apt, it was one of ITV's first colour programmes

The BBC One HD DOG became nothing more than an irrelevant smudge in the end, and then they got rid of it. Hopefully that will be the same for BBC Four HD's.
