Are they only expecting a major news story during the Christmas period then ? Confused

There is a hold put on all big / breaking changes over Christmas (not only in the BBC, but in many organisations), because more people are on holidays / breaks, and there's lower staffing. No different to the stop put in for the Olympics last year to ensure no scheduled maintenance accidentally took BBC 1 off air halfway through the 100m final.

Presumably the BBC consider a accidental deletion of the NC to be a more serious event than accidentally removing CBeebies from the EPG, and are therefore scheduling it for after the Christmas break.

There is ALWAYS a Christmas Platform freeze. A similar one was used over the Olympic period in 2012. It's designed that no platform changes that could lead to problems across the respective platforms impacting more than the channel directly involved in the change. Mainly done to not inconvenience viewers, but also enables over Christmas a certain amount of staff down-standing over the holidays too.

Quite ironic that the first programme (excluding 60 Seconds) on BBC Three HD is Winter Wipeout.... that's not in HD!

And from that it seems that the 'HD' DOG is going to be appearing on every programme whether it's HD or not like BBC One HD used to do.

I am assuming given the HD DOG on BBC3 that it has separate playout to BBC3 SD, rather than the SD version being a downscaled rebroadcast like BBC 1 and BBC 2 are hence the lack of DOGs on their HD versions.

Discrete BBC FOUR HD Dog .... Acceptable.

dvboy: no reason why the DOG generator couldn't be downstream of where the playout gets downconverted. Perhaps they're even the erstwhile BBC One HD and BBC HD generators?

Yes, I know, but the 'freeze' didn't prevent the BBC 1 Nations and BBC 2 England EPG swaps today ?

Regarding BBC News HD, we have decided to delay the swapping with the SD channel until after the Christmas change freeze, ie, January 2014, in order to avoid non-essential technical work that could impact the availability of our existing SD BBC News channel whilst it is covering a major news story.

Isn't the non-essential technical work connected with the provision of the Red Button text service - hence no channel swap until it can be fixed?

Is 60 Seconds on BBC Three in HD as it didn't have the HD DOG on during the bulletin?

Given that it comes from one of the brand new HD studios at NBH I'd be amazed if it wasn't.

Here's a screen cap from the 8pm bulletin. The PQ during the bulletin isn't that great to be honest.
