CBBC Thread

A bit like the CITV thread, but for CBBC (July 2004)

Was going to pop this in CITV thread but decided to do a new one as this is CBBC stuff... so any discussions of TSS, Mysti, Smile, Dick & Dom etc can go here...

SMILE: Former Smile presenter Devin "DJ Devstar" Griffin is to take over weekend breakfast on 1xtra. He currently hosts a Saturday lunch show with Reggie Yates (who will join Dev on Saturday mornings, whilst continuing to host Smile on Sundays) - source: report on teletext recently

MYSTI: Anyone else noticed the recent changes to the Mysti Show? The magazine segments no longer come from the Heath (the fairy home world), but are they now saying they're coming from the Vent (Earth nitespot, in reality the Heath with some slight set/lighting changes)? Also there is now a 'coming up' menu halfway through the show, and the Battle of Elbbub now appears around halfway through the show rather than at the end. (This follows the recent reformatting of Elbbub with new rounds).

Also, here is a brief guide to the quite confusing makeup of BBC kids morning shows since 2001.

Autumn 2001
Live & Kicking ends on BBC1, replaced by The Saturday Show (v1 with Joe Mace & Dani Behr)
BBC2 at this time is doing CBBC Links on Sundays

February 2002
CBBC Channel launches. TSS Extra begins, initially same times as BBC1 show. Smile begins Sundays 9-12 on CBBC Channel. No change to BBC1/2.

Summer 2002
TSS graphics/studio change but Behr & Mace remain. Over the summer TSS is broadcast from Glasgow.

September 2002
TSS relaunch on its return to London: v3 presenters are Fearne Cotton and Simon Grant. TOTP Saturday begins as a strand within TSS. Tiny & Mr Duk and Stamford Amp leave. TSS Extra reformatted as 1-hour show on CBBC Channel from 12-1. Smile moves from CBBC Channel to BBC2 and its start moves earlier (initially 0830, later 0800 and then 0730). Dick & Dom begin on CBBC Channel Sat & Sun from 9-12.

Summer 2003
TSS Extra dropped. Dick & Dom go on holiday, replaced by links. TSS (from Glasgow) and Smile (from London) continue.

Sept 2003
Dick & Dom return: Sat on BBC1 & CBBC Chl, Sun only on CBBC Chl. 9-11 both days. TOTP Saturday runs as a seperate show 11-12. Smile as before.

Summer 2004
Dick & Dom on holiday so TSS v4 from Glasgow (current lineup) and the Mysti Show launch (TSS on BBC1, Mysti on BBC1 & CBBC Chl). Smile continues on BBC2 and launches the extra section on CBBC Chl (simulcast 1000-1030, Chl only 1030-1100).

I think CBBC ONE really needs a new cartoon as I think I have seen these eps of 'Dennis the Menace' about 5 times over, and they are really old aswell. ( I don't watch 'Dennis the Menace' but flick over occassionly and see the same ones).
Plus, why don't the CBBC Channel show the 'Rugrats' during Animadness? Always, confuses me that.
One more thing, BRING BACK ANGELICA TO CBBC ONE!!!

Rugrats isn't shown on Animadness because it is a Nickelodeon programme. CBBC has the terrestrial broadcast rights, but Nick clearly have the multichannel.

Makes ME feel old when you refer to 1996 as 'really old', LoveTV- I remember rushing home every day to catch their first showings!

Just adding a few corrections, i hope u don't mind.
TSS graphics changed around january/february time, i think it was just before the channel's launched, the same happened in 2003 when they introduced the new Saturday Show titles.

Stampford Amp and Tiny & Mr Duk didn't leave, thus why they were on the original Simon and Fearne titles. Stampford Amp had no real part on the new Saturday Show as they didn't have a band, or use a band, tho they were still there and were used and talked to on TSS Extra.
Tiny & Mr Duk were around until spring time, though i don't think that they went to glasgow.

angelica should be the main presenter on CBBC. shes good on The Saturday Show but is more suited to the links with Andrew.
I personally would have had Sarra Elgan form Exchange to present The Saturday Show.
or if they wanted to go for a scottish presenter since its up there Heather Suttie would have been great.
I thought she was superb on the last series of Live and Kicking

"The Agents" would be improved by not sticking Carrie Grant's face in the stings. I've just found out she's only 39, which amazes me. I'd have guessed late forties.

They also had a few problems during even stevens aswell. My picture just froze fot aboutr 5mins then it cut straight to the presenters as if nothing happened. My box didn't freeze as when i turned over to CBeebies that was on anf the bug on the DOG was working so I don't know.
Finally, at the end the BBC THREE starting soon caption came up cutting off the CBBC end ident. Mad
