Saw a trailer for the CBBC Prom in the Park just before 7 (the one starting with the girl bouncing on the trampoline).

Have a close look at the writing at the bottom left at the end. It seemed to say something along the lines of:
"For the sake of safety, please do not bring glass objects, sharp items or flaming torches ."

I haven't got the wording exactly right, but I'm sure I spotted the bit in bold - and am a little astounded. What's that all about?

It refers to these stick 'em in the ground wooden stakes dipped in paraffin wax you see in garden centres. Sometime scented with citronella (fancy word for lemon) to keep the bugs away. Ooh la la.

They're really quite dangerous though due to them being cheap rubbish. The wax just pours off them after about 20 mins and then you've got a wee fire on your hands.

It says for the sake of safety please do not bring glass objects, barbecues ( i presume the disposable ones!) or flaming touches.

Though this is aimed at 6-13 year olds who go with their parents. But I suppose if the park says that they have to advertise this fact to use the park.
