CBBC looking for a presenter

They just haven't revealed it's them yet... (March 2006)

Reading my paper today and I hit the recruitment section and thought I'd have a scout round and see what was on offer. There was a medium size ad in it with the title TV PRESENTER WANTED! I read on thinking it was one of these cheesy game show channels.

I got the address to find the first line PO BOX 9989 and it rang some bells. The postcode even more so. I did a google and low and behold it's the BBC, or CBBC to be precise.

Are they in the habit of placing ads with no mention of who the channel is, there is no mention of any network either. The only thing that could associate it with the beeb is the Gill Sans font. I find it more interested that they're advertising in one of the broadsheets... the must want someone fairly intellectual.

Apparently it's quite regular for Blue Peter to place anonymous appeal for presenters, presumably to shift out the people who just want to be on Blue Peter from those who genuinely want a job that is exciting, energetic, trying new things etc...

On reading it it did sound very Blue Peter and going over it again I'm convinced that's who it's for. It mentions travelling, and things all Blue Peter type things.

Isn't Liz leaving soon? I don't think she's been replaced.

Zoe and Gethin were both announced as new presenters months before making their actual debut - while in the past as far as I'm aware new presenters were not revealed until the day of their debut.

Shame its not a continuity type presenter they're looking for - if it was maybe they could get rid of that annoying Anne Foy who seems to be on all the bloody time.. whoever gave her the job seriously needs talking to - her voice is terrible and she's terrible in general.. not a good presenter IMHO.

The ad was in The Stage this week too.

Well there's several presenters going spare....

Abs / Ade / Jez / Gemma / Ortis from Xchange (deceased today 31.03.06)
Simon Grant (& Angellica?) from Saturday Show (not recommissioned)

What are they going to do with all these presenters? Give them their P45s?
Jez could go back to the Big Toe on BBC7

Angelica is remaining as a CBBC One presenter with Simon Grant retaining his position, as I understand. Angelica has always been the primary CBBC One presenter and her digressions into these shows was only to try and prop them up.

Can't comment on X-Change, last time I saw it there was fruit, if I remember correctly but from what I hear it'll be no great loss to British broadcasting.

The Saturday Show has always seemed a stop gap to me, it was almost a knee jerk reaction to SMTV and the new idea of some bus sounds equally as, shall we say, doomed.

You'll also see a lot of 'old school' CBBC presenters now on BBC 7, well not see but hear them. Kirsten (Former Smart) is now one of the mainstay of Childrens programming on BBC 7.

I suspect alot of the 'younger' presenters will have to take this as experience but ultimately return to the screens in one form or another, hell they may even take the Blue Peter job.

I would apply, but I've probably done far worse things than previous presenters have been sacked for.

Shame. I'm a whizz with sticky-backed plastic.

Kirsten also presents Smile on BBC Two on Sundays, alongside Barney and Nev.

There's so many CBBC presenters thesedays, what with them doing spin off shows as well as presenting and many coming and going, such as that guy from Kerching and there was another Andrew at one time as well.

The CBBC website is already listing
Abs, Andrew, Angellica Bell, Anne Foy, Barney, Gemma, Jake, Matt, Ortis, Rani, Simon Grant, Sophie

Considering there's no live continuity at breakfast time or at weekends on CBBC TWO anymore there's loads to go round

Gav, I suspect most people have done worse things than previous presenters have been sacked for. If not, we just have different standards than most and should be ashamed of ourselves.
