Yep - and in the early days of CBBC (and for quite a while after) it wasn't unusual to see BBC Choice on the CBBC "channel" - though on at least one occasion they had to pull BBC Choice entirely, rather than broadcast material that would be inappropriate for a childrens' channel.
The reason for this is that CBBC and BBC Three share the same playout area, and on satellite and Freeview (don't know about cable), they share the same transmission space on the satellite transponder / DTT mux. The only reason they appear on different "channels" is because the DSat and DTT systems allow you to alter what video and audio streams are "attached" to which channels dynamically. (This is how CBeebies and BBC Four, ITV 4 and ITV NC, and UK Bright Ideas and ftn share the same space as well) If this switching goes wrong, CBBC appears to be on BBC Three or vice versa.
Because they come from the same transmission area it is entirely possible that a fault/mistake can cause the CBBC Dog rather than the BBC Three Dog to appear.
On NTL, CBBC & BBC Three both appear on each other channels, same goes for CBeebies/BBC Four and UB BrightIdeas/FTN (though it only started with them recently).
