Well unless 11th February is the start of half term week (which I wouldn't know about, being years past that stage! Smile ) I still see little point in transmitting the likes of Get Your Own Back and The Demon Headmaster to an audience that should be at school!!

Half-term starts on Saturday the 16th of February, so the 11th is a Monday. Does seem a bit pointless though! Maybe they want to encourage children to skive off school to watch their channel! http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/cheesy.gif

I just found out more info about the new top 40 chart show on Digital Spy -

'CBBC also announced that it is working in conjuntion with Radio 1 to broadcast The Official UK Top 40 on CBBC. Hosted by Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq and Adrian Dickson, it will play out new chart highlights as well as simultaneously revealing the new Number One.'

So it looks like it will only play out the new chart 'highlights'.
Also on digitalspy.co.uk you can find out the schedule for the launch day of CBBC and CBeebies.

Ben

I've been a great fan of the Top 40 on Radio 1 for a long time, so I have no complaints about a tv show on CBBC, a pity they didn't do this before though. OK, the singles market isn't as good as the albums, but people under 16 tend to buy more singles than albums. Radio 1 may indeed have been better before 1993/1994. Radio 2 is too varied for me, while it may play stuff from 80s & 90s it can revert back to 1930s/40s stuff which I can't stand. Radio 2 needs to be more defined on on area. I reckon BBC ONE will change it's look and adapt the box style on February 11th!http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/confused.gif

Heres Hoping! Wink My Dad just came in and said that he sat next to Martin Lambie-Nairn on the train back home - I should have got him to ask!

Veering right off-topic... I find Radio 2 perfectly listenable to during daytime hours and on Saturdays - but perhaps a little too much chart music for my liking! Just avoid R2 on Sundays when it seems to revert to the Light Programme, and plays all that pre-war stuff, which is fair enough as there is no longer any other outlet for that kind of material and there is still an audience for it that has been abandoned by everyone else, including R2 for the rest of the week. Yes, Radio 2 did once sound awful every day of the week - now it just does on Sundays!

But they must be doing something right - 14.7million listeners (and still growing) can't be wrong. Still, I'm looking forward to BBC 6 Music - the new digital radio station starting 11th March!

BBC1 idents have twice changed in February (1985 and 1991), so you never know!

Two questions.......

1) Will BBC Four be launching on 11th Febuary or will BBC knowledge be transmitting 6 hours a night?

2) I heard some where that BBC Four/ CBBC will be transmitting education or schools like programming in the day not just kids otherwise if they didi show the normal stuff there would be a massive ratings flop!http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/confused.gif

1) BBC FOUR is due to start in March, so yes, presumably BBC Knowledge will have its hours reduced, unless they decide to close it down for a month - which is possible, but unlikely.

2) So did I - and so they should show educational programmes in daytime! As I've said before, there's no point in two children's channels running concurrently during the school day. At the moment BBC Knowledge is the only free-to-air that offers a more substantial alternative to usual daytime fare of chat/cookery/makeover shows, children's programmes and news. And when you're stuck at home with a stinking cold Sad , you really do want something more interesting to watch! Make BBC FOUR an all-day service, and merge CBeebies and CBBC into one channel!

As it is, CBBC's daytime programmes will, during term-time, probably be viewed only by those children below its target age range, who have learnt to use the Sky EPG!

(And I hope they don't try to make that CBeebies logo into a DOG - although good to see they've still managed to incorporate the BBC logo!)

<in Homer Simpson style> Oh God Oh God Oh God Oh God Oh God!

That is horrible - it reminds me of every crappy Kids TV logo from the 80s onwards - terrible!
<bashes head against desk>

I absolutely agree with the person who says CBBC and CBeeBies should be merged to allow BBC Four to run all day - and even then, only until technology/common sense allows the BBC more broadcast capacity on DTT, so they can be made their own channel and BBC Three goes all day too - there is definitely space for an older-teen/young adult channel from the BBC, Yoof TV tends towards mind-numbing at the best of times and it would be good to see the channel broadcasting from earlier in the day, even if part of the hours were Music videos, celebrity interview things, repeats or whatever. Definitely trying to compete for young viewers when you don't start up till they are already watching something else is madness!

Well if you think that's bad (which I do), what about this:

Whatever was wrong with plain: C |B|B|C| ? All right, it's not very child-friendly, but it is much more elegant. The 1997 generic look continues to fall apart... Sad
