Authough I didn't remember the CBBC continuity DOG, that mock up has made me remember. BTW I do have some old CBBC footage on video from 1994, and I liked the sunday morning studio they used. I wish they would dig some of the old CBBC continuity out of the acrhive (uncropped of course, as this cropping crap is geting out of hand- channel 4 seem to be the only channel that don't do it!) so we coulds ee it again.

I remember a while ago in the summer they presenter continuity links from the roof of TVC with giant cardboard things creating islands and backdrops. I think it was only used for a couple of years before the move to studio 9 though. I was only young at the time so I don't really remember it that clearly.

Yeah, I've got Philipper Forrester from 94, she's on the roof when it was done up as a desert with an american style road. They also had a treehouse up there at a later date. When they moved to TC9 they had the garden so the roof was shut.

Not really. Its only about 5 minutes on the whole video of presentation, and that's scattered out over about 4 hours.

They are very careful to make sure that the entire credits are shown

You're wrong, CITV cut the credits at the end before companie logos for a long time, they still do now.

I used to have CBBC in 1992 & 1993 on tape, but it was one of the ancient tapes in my collection that broke. Now I have 2 copies of most tapes, and I probably had more cbbc & citv in the early 90s but I was always reusing tapes when I was younger.

Hmm, we were all very young and foolish that time!! Wink

Actually, April 95 was a milestone in my TV-loving life, cos Mum bought me my very first VCR at the time - I was totally http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif when I got home after school! Too much for a 9 year old eh! It sat under my telly and we became best friends - ah, sad!

CBBC was on next morning, so I grabbed a blank tape and pressed the button with the red dot! It taped 3 hours of gold; trails and lots of pres. I wiped the main titles and've only managed to keep 2 hours since, but still, I think this is something I'm very proud to own on video, maybe I should put it in that TV Ark thread! http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif Or maybe not...

Oh, and just if you're interested, and you most probably are, it was a very cheap, retarded Philips VR6185 machine with a dodgy spool, but it did the job! Thank god I got another one after that!

I don't see what people don't like about DOGs, if you don't like them, don't look at them. They are designed not to focus your eye, which they don't unless you look for them and start thinking there's a DOG in the corner!
DOGs I agree have few uses but more on analogue, when channel 5 launched it was very useful to have the DOG to detect the channel when tuning in.
I also find the DOG useful in finding out which channel I'm watching on the second feed from my digibox as I cannot press select to find out!

I know strictly speaking  its not an ECP, but Channel 4 do seem to have at least thought about their banners at the end of a programme.

Producers have to abide by guidelines set by Channel 4, basically stipulating that credits must leave a gap to the right side so that menus or graphics can be superimposed by presentation. In my view, they are good - not too distracting, and sometimes quite useful.

Even the end production credit seems well thought out - the production company on the left, the standardised Channel 4 logo on the right.

Channel 4 is a station which really has sorted its on-screen image out.

ITV have also storted out their ECPs. Their producer guidelines state that the credits must appear on the swirly background on the left, and it works quite well because they have been re-done specially for that purpose. It's the BBC started doing ECPs quite late in the day and still haven't quite sorted it out.
