Not fully comprehensive - there is footage on YouTube of Zoe Ball doing the BroomCupboard for example.

What are slides in tv terms?

They are still images promoting upcoming programming.

and so-called because they were, originally, 35mm glass-mounted slides. (You may need to ask your parents.)

Incidentally, the programme's producer, Jamie Wilson, and Wilson the Butler. Are they by any chance related, or just a coincidence?

Mark Wilson was Wilson the butler (see his linkedin https://uk.linkedin.com/in/mistermarkwilson), I don't know if there's a relation between him and Jamie.

So as a discussion, can we have a list of all the presenters who actually presented in the broom cupboard, not Studio A or the Birthdays desk in said studio, or anything else, but the actual broom cupboard?

I believe as well as Schofield, Crane, Peters and Anstis, you had Debbie Flint, Simon Parkin, Philippa Forrester and Zoe Ball. I think that's it, just eight people. Chris Jarvis appeared in character as The Anorak but I don't think he did any actual presenting despite overlapping with the broom cupboard by nearly a year (he mainly did the birthday slot and holiday mornings from Studio A).

Does anyone know where the tape of Toby touching up his makeup between links might have come from?
I think by this point (and certainly judging by the picture quality) the links were being archived properly, but was that really done by recording the output of the NC1 camera for the full slot each afternoon?

Where does that 1993 picture of the broom cupboard come from? You know the one that they sometimes superimpose current presenters over.

I'm guessing it was taken at the time when CBBC wasn't on air?

I bet it was more like the fact someone had noticed toby kept on doing that so, some one recorded it for the xmas tapes? Mind you Im surprised the broom Cupbroads links were NEVER recorded in the first place just incase someone need to check something. whether there were kept after after a few weeks is another question.

I think it comes from the Broom Cupboard website - there was the odd point when they'd do a gag that the presenter was late and dashed in shot at the last minute. Also I think a couple of times during the Andi years when it was redesigned they'd start with the empty set to present the new look before coming in.

You're correct! I just checked out the Broom Cupboard website and that image is there. When was that version of the Broom Cupboard introduced?

There would probably have been some sort of recording of output, probably on VHS, after all there is a recording of Philips famous breakdown. They'd have been for logging and checking, not for long term archive.

Recording them on a broadcast quality format would be easier these days with servers and even before that with small easy to use tape formats. In the 80s though it would have meant tying up a VT suite for the afternoon for very little real reason

My guess is that it's a shot taken for the set designers or similar when that set was installed. A record of what it looked like

Paul Smith, best known as Gordon's assistant, wrote a blog entry the other day pretty much confirming that they recorded the output on five VHS tapes and re-used them each week.
