These days I mostly watch Citv or Pop.

Also, hooray! CBBC have another drama that no one asked for! (Hetty Feather) Thank God it's only having 10 episodes (for now)

I think CBBC need more animation. The only shows they have running new episodes are Arthur and Shaun the Sheep. I hope CBBC acquire the upcoming 'Be Cool, Scooby-Doo'. I imagine they will do as they usually acquire the new Scooby-Doo seasons.

CITV and Pop (CITV especially) are beginning to cater for an extremely young audience, which is a shame baring in mind CITV used to always be my favourite out of CBBC and CITV when I was little. As for Pop, I've never really watched it but I can see that the majority of programmes are for the under 10s.

As for CBBC, I'm waiting for Hetty Feather Returns, or indeed, Tracy Beaker Returns Again and Again and Again.

I personally think CBBC needs more real life, relatable drama, as it has lacked it in recent years. I hope they acquire the new Scooby Doo aswell, I've love to see how they've ruined it this time!

Strange. I always thought CBBC was more patronizing than CITV, and that CITV always the louder, edgier one of the two.

I was originally not sure about the new Scooby-Doo. But then I found out that some of the crew from Phineas and Ferb are working on it.

Citv still has quite a few shows for older audiences, these include Adventure Time, Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

As well as all the online competition, something that CBBC and CBeebies (and CITV too) are receiving unexpected competition from is Pop and Tiny Pop. It's the first time they've really had proper competition on Freeview and although Pop isn't nationwide it has had some serious audience growth in the last year and along with TP is nibbling away at the top 3's audience share, now they don't have a monopoly on Freeview.

That's based on a Jacqueline Wilson book - it's aimed at girls, so I'm not surprised that you're unimpressed.

CBBC was at its peak in the mid 2000's. with the story of Tracy beaker (and the movie) alongside their others shows such as chuckle vision and the re- make of the queens nose. I'm obviously way way out of their age range but from what I've seen its patronising and cheesy. I'd agree that they need more relatable real life dramas... I believe that CBBC, CBeebies and Citv are all shadows if their former selves... Or maybe that's what people want these days.

Not really, the Tracy Beaker TV show was based on a book by JB and aimed at girls. But I liked that.

A lot of JW's books are female orientated, though I think to some extent The Story of Tracy Beaker book and TV series are aimed primarily at both genders. The more recent spin-off series, Tracy Beaker Returns and The Dumping Ground, have been aimed at both genders.

Tracy Beaker is the universe that keeps on giving. When the kids grow up, rebrand the show and replace the actors. Simples.

Dumping Ground is a spin off of Tracy Beaker Returns, which itself was a spin off of the original Tracy Beaker series. But they must be doing something right because Beaker and her spin offs are the most popular programme on CBBC - the first episode of Dumping Ground, according to Wiki, had two and a half times the views on iPlayer as it did viewership on the CBBC Channel.

Since reboots are clearly in at the moment, what CBBC really needs is a Aquila reboot. Smile

Finally, has anyone else ever wondered how BBC Children's justify the spending they put to giving Blue Peter a whole studio, considering I read the show only receives under 90,000 views now?

Basically, in my opinion, both Channels need a complete revamp! [/quote]

Blue Peter may only get 90,000 viewers but in terms letters, emails etc it receives each week, it reaches out to its audience far better than any other CBBC programme.

It's Editor Ewan Vinnicombe has done a great job in reinventing the programme - staying true to its ethos, but being up-to-date, just like former BP Editors Steve Hocking and Richard Marson did.

Former Editor Tim Levell did tried to modernise the show and failed.

Blue Peter needs a bigger studio, not a smaller one, and its only thanks to BP Series Director Martin Williams that it looks bigger.

With former head of BBC Childrens Joe Godwin - gone to the shoe box at Birmingham, BBC Childrens looks in decline.

I would love to see Blue Peter moved across to BBC One or Two, because I think it is a family show?

You do realise what channels it used to be on before children's programme was shown (almost) only on the CBBC Channel? Maybe I'm getting old but I remember when there were only two episodes a week and an omnibus edition shown on Sunday mornings.
