I wouldn't be suprised if the used part of TC9 for the afternoon as in theory it reduces the cost of having a extra studio which is only used for an hour or two a day, especially if the Breakfast show is now pre-recorded.

The studio that is used for CBBC 1 is used alot more than a couple of hours a day. CBBC on BBC Prime also uses this studio. I imagine that if they are comming from TC9 it is only temporary, perhaps while they revamp there normal studio.

Not temporary. The studio previously used for CBBC on One is now being used for another programme.

Just being curious, but do you know what programme?

But I thought Breakfast and Newsround come from TC7? I don't think that CBBC ever came from that studio.

Think you're confusing Breakfast (the news programme) with Children's Breakfast presentation (which is I think what the previous poster was talking about)

Not sure if he meant CBBC channel presentation or BBC Two though. CBBC channel presentation used to be live in the morning in the days when Newsround digital bulletins, XChange and CBBC presentation (along with Nelly Nut) all came from the same studio/gallery.

It was home to Saturday Mornings for several years though!

So what's TC2 going to be used for, as Xchange is "decommissioned"?

Maybe it needs a refit after all the CBBC programmes that have been broadcast in it for the last four years.

What happens in September then, as Level Up is ony announced as running til September?

There do seem to be a number of CBBC shows not airing these days - though when Grange Hill ends, we might see which programmes are going to fill the 4.30 slot on weekdays.

True and at one point the BBC were going to combine Studio 7 with Studio 8 but that never happened and they were kept separate. I wonder why?

Probably not enough demand for facilities for large studio programmes. Only occasionally do they have a requirement for two shows that need TC1 sized facilities simultaneously (though it does happen, and one then has to squeeze into a smaller studio.)

I heard rumours TC2 may be mothballed for a while.

As for Level Up only announced until September - that is probably just the length of its initial commission. If they are happy with it then there is nothing to stop them renewing - but if they aren't convinced it is working, they only have a 6 month commitment to it.

And the irony is that with Pop Idol, The X Factor, Test The Nation and Strictly Come Dancing programme makers now seem to want those big studios. In fact the first three I mentioned are shot at the Fountain Studios, which was also where Friends filmed when they came to London. I don't think Studio 1 at Television Centre is a patch on that studio, or studio 1 at The London Television Studios, in terms of atmosphere.

Yep - though most providers - including Fountain, London Studios and BBC Studios - only have one really large studio. (Fountain's being two medium sized studios that can work as one large one when a door is opened)

It just isn't cost effective to run multiple large studios - as although there are peaks in demand - the large studios are still often empty for quite long periods. There are probably fewer than 5 days each year when the Beeb need two TC1s simultaneously - and the other 360 days one would be empty, and for quite a significant portion of time both.

If anything there is a very real requirement for small studios for the daily ITV2/BBC Three/BBC Two spin off shows. There is only one Strictly Come Dancing each week from TC1, but there were 5 Strictly Come Dancing on Two shows, and these came from non-BBC studios (London Studios and The Hospital ISTR), because the BBC didn't have a small (aka cheap enough) studio available for a daily booking for a long run.

The BBC only has two small production studios at TV Centre (both ex-News studios) - and both are currently booked out (one to kids, one to news)

What did the TV companies do in the old days before they started making programmes at other studios? It was unheard of for a Thames, LWT, BBC show not to be made in their respective studios. In the 70's you hear the stories of how great it was to be working at TV Centre and Parkinson would be in one studio, Dad's Army in another and all of the studios were filled. Are the BBC's studios full and producers have to go elsewhere or do they choose to use other studios?

Are there any shows that are now unique to the CBBC Channel? It used to have a distinctive character - Saturday Show Extra shown when first started, Dick & Dom series 1 & 2, UK Top 40, Xchange, Nelly Nut.

We now seem to have little live in vision continuity, and I'm finding it diffiuclt to name a show unique to the channel. I know about the Newsround inserts froma broom cupboard but what else is now unique?
