Three good reasons to ignore this cheap pile of rubbish.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 3D graphics are get rid of by the time, it goes into production.

Both end games were OK before, so the new one might not be too bad.

Not a massive fan of Sean Lock, but he might work well in the Roy Walker role. Not as well as Roy Walker though.

I hope Mulhern is just hosting the pilot. They do sometimes get rubbish, unlikeable presenters in on-the-cheap to host pilots before replacing them with somebody decent for the actual show.

I'm sure i read somewhere that Roy would be happy to do it again can't remember how long ago this was though.

I like how people go on about Catchphrase like it was a real quality production - it was a repetitive format with little variation throughout fronted by a charming but inept comedian.

Even the name was a misnomer - most of the 'Catchphrases' were not catchphrases at all.

Yeah, the worst catchphrase was "Welcome to Crutchphrase, I'm Nick Weir.. and I'm PLASTERED!"

Literally, he broke his leg falling down the stairs in the studio, if I recall correctly.

Yeah that's right, he used to come down the stairs in a very joyous way....

Catchphrase worked because it was made at the right time, with the right host, the right set and right graphics. None of these elements were particularly good, they just all worked together at that time for whatever reason.

If you were making a list of qualities required in a game show host then Stephen Mulhern would probably tick more boxes than Roy Walker, the graphics used in this new version are obviously going to be 'better' than anything that has come before and the set is likely to have a more modern look than the blue and pink neon lights used in the shows heyday.

None of that really matters, it just wont be Catchphrase as much as All New Blockbusters, despite it being largely praised and not having anything really wrong with it, is just not Blockbusters. They will not be able to make Catchphrase as popular as the original, so why are they bothering? If this gets a series, the best they can hope for is high viewing figures for the first episode as people are curious about what they have done to the format. The money would be better spent getting the rights sorted out for a complete run of the original series on Challenge [TV]. Although they could probably stop once they get to the Nick Weir ones.

Talking of Nick Weir, did he wear the same trousers for every episode of Catchphrase during his first series?
