I think the bulk of The Simpsons is still hand-drawn - it's only the inking and colouring that's entirely done in the computer now. Personally I wouldn't call it CGI.

But weren't Catchphrase's animations always CGI? Just the very primitive BBC Micro style originally?

I'd hazard a guess at an Amiga, as the animations had a lot more colours than the Beeb could produce.

I would have to agree with others, Stephen Mulhern isn't a great presenter and he doesn't suit this show.

Why didn't they bring Roy back? He has said he'd love to do it again, are ITV just being ageist? I also don't like the animation style, the old one was much better. If this gets another series, I hope there are changes!

Still, there is no denying that The Simpsons is still 2D animation.

Didn't Roy Walker once joke he was "too senile" to do the show now Laughing? I quite like Stephen Mulhern, and I think he does a decent job-- well certainly a lot better than Mark Curry and Nick Weir IMO. However the show is often repeated on Challenge with RW at the helm, and after 13 years he did make the show his own.

Towards the end of his run he became quite slow.

Roy does stand up tours across the UK and Ireland now and incorporates a Catchphrase segment into it. Anyone who has watched it will tell you he ain't so slow! He's still fit and quick witted as ever. They should have at least got him in for one of the celebrity specials.

Maybe he grew tired of the format because he seemed noticeably slower and disinterested, particularly in his last series.

He became uninterested... a quiz show host should be disinterested Wink

I'm sure he's as sharp-witted as ever: I suspect the "senile" joke, was a bit of wry self-effacing. I've nothing against SM; he's good, but it's not right [groan]. I'd have loved to have seen Roy Walker back at the helm, not least because of his own catchphrases.

We need to someone that can carry on the series for many years to come.

If anyone has seen Roy Walker's stand-up (and I recommend you do), he does have a slow pace. However, that's simply his timing - and it works very well.

That may be true - it's just a shame they didn't find a different younger host.
