I think she's talking purely in the sense of the new definition film.

I might watch tonight's Casualty to see if it warrants an entry on the calendar. I've already decided that it can no longer be called a soap opera or a 'cheap, manufactured drama'.

I was very impressed by the performances and the storyline, but I actually didn't mind the instrumental theme tune. It seemed more urgent and pacey to me, and fitted better with the titles.

I think she's talking purely in the sense of the new definition film.

Well in that case she could have said they were doing a Brookside or a Byker Grove or a Holby City on it...

With GH all that changed was what the viewer saw and to a lesser extent this was also the case with Holby, though the scripting is still rife with the characters' love lives rather than showing medics at the sharp end.

Casualty has definitely changed and refreshed. It doesn't feel like a soap anymore but more of a drama, which I think will take a bit of time to get used to. It was more gory than usual, although the burns victim last season was particularly nasty, and it made a change not to have a storyline focused on character relationships. The return of the more dramatic music from two seasons ago was a step in the right direction as well I think.

I wish they'd remove this 'film effect' though as it doesn't seem to have the same urgency or realism as before. Saying that, the episode flew by (strange considering that I got the impression that it was a bit slow)
I don't think much to the newly decorated hospital either; to me it seems far too dark and doesn't look that realistic - surely a hospital wouldn't be that dark in reality.

Overall a good start but I think it could be improved with the loss of this film effect and perhaps undoing this new paint job. It's still Casualty, but it has a different feel about it.

No mention of Selena's death or Stitch's absence - its as if they never existed.

No explanation necessary for Stitch - he told a stunned Nathan he was quitting, handed over his hospital ID then got on his bike and rode off into the sunset. The lack of mention of Selena - well, it would have been nothing for a casual reference or a collection box on the reception desk...in any case, we will be learning the fate of her baby in due course.

I've not watched Casulty in years. Much more watchable, and good to see a more upbeat theme back after the dreadful previous remix!

Tonight's was just so great again. I have to say I love the new Casualty. For some reason I was so scared when Charlie was walking around the evacuated part! So cleverly done overall. I loved how it all slotted in to place with last night's.

The metaphor with the car was great too, with a lovely ending tying both Toby and Charlie together after we'd lived the day with both of them.

Top marks - let's hope they keep up the momentum!

There was absolutely no excuse for Charlie's behaviour towards a clearly terrified child patient in the explosion. He deserves a reprimand at the very least.

Laughing Well it did the job, it shut her up so they could get her out alive! Wink

Try putting yourself in the girl's situation - which even an adult would find terrifying. From Charlie it was so out of character.

I don't think so. She was relentlessly screaming her head off, I'm sure they all tried to shut her up in a kind way. At the end of the day, it was a disaster scene, the least of their worries was making sure a little girl was in peace of mind - I'm sure the girl would have preferred to have been shouted at and live to tell the tale than have died while Charlie sang a song or something to lull her into silence.
