If you're a fan of the original Casualty theme tune, the old titles, or both, a mash-up of old and new just went out at the start of tonight's episode, with an HD recreation of the old (original?) logo.
This weekend's episodes launched series 30 and they were written and directed by Casualty co-creator, Paul Unwin... hence a temporary return to form for the stalwart. It really was good to see old school, gritty Casualty back.
And yes - Ken Freeman's original theme tune definitely deserves to be reinstated. The way the BBC have played around with that theme tune is criminal, if you ask me. Good to hear it again tonight.

It was great that the soapy nonsense of the final two episodes of series 29 were removed for what Casualty was originally about. Gritty drama around society and the NHS.

Indeed. It's difficult to believe that this series was once gritty, critically acclaimed stuff. It really has been bled dry and watered down over the years. Being on all year round doesn't help, either, but I suppose the BBC have no other option but to continue to pump out episode after episode given that it takes care of 43-48 Saturdays a year these days.
Sadly, Paul Unwin's two episodes this weekend will be an exception rather than the norm - a return to soapy mediocrity and unchallenging patient storylines from next week, I'm sure.
