Tonight's Episode was good IMO and quite sad at the end :'(
Am I right im thinking that tonight's ep should have been in two parts??

Certainly looks like it! Bit of a feature length that one. Haven't seen it yet though.

I must say, Casualty is pretty good at creating some good moments. A particularly good episode for me was the one a few months ago featuring solely Nick Jordan, and no cutaways to other storylines. It was good at filling in the holes!

Yes I believe it was meant as a 2 part episode - usually they screen part one on a Saturday and part two on a Sunday when they have these double episodes but I think it worked well as a feature episode. Very sad at the end but a brilliant episode overall.

Does anyone else find that the lively theme tune often ruins a moving end to an episode?

Welll I feel divided on that, with a moving end it would be good if they could develop a sort of ending like the Julias theme ending which plays out at the end of a sad eastenders episode. However the quite sad moment followed by the dramatic end tune is good nbecause your emotions are being thrown about. That probably don't make any sense Very Happy

I expected maybe a piano riff of the theme, like they do on some shows when the ending is sad. But no, the thing blared in, ruining the ending for me.

I'm not sure I agree the Casualty theme is lively . It's certainly upbeat and dramatic but it's quite sinister, evocative, atmospheric even. I think even on the saddest of episodes it works rather well. There is the piano introduction build-up which often preceeds the credits proper and can bridge the join between an emotional ending and the credits. To be honest, I find piano arrangements of end themes utterly cheesey. Crossroads used to do it - 'nuff said.

To be honest, Casualty's theme is IMO one of the most recognisable and iconic themes on the BBC these days. Yes, it's been around in one form or another since the shows inception, but so many newer themes are seldom heard because they're voiced over throughout.

Sure, it's distinctive, and I'm not saying the tune isn't good - it's perfect, really. However, the arrangement is, I'm afraid, harsh. It spoils moments, and the piano bridge doesn't save it from being so.
