From Media Guardian...

BBC1 and Channel 4 are set to go head-to-head early next year with two reality shows set in the southern hemisphere's summer, enticing viewers labouring through the British winter with sun-soaked images.

BBC1's Castaway is returning to screens after a break of six years. The new series will be set in New Zealand, MediaGuardian.co.uk can reveal - a far cry from the wet and windy Scottish island of Taransay, where the first series was based.

Meanwhile, Channel 4 is to move its T4 reality show Shipwrecked into an evening slot.

Castaway, which will again be made by independent production company Lion Television, is set to air for three months from February, with programming also on BBC3.

The show will keep its basic premise of a group of volunteers living as a community in a remote location, but this time it will feature regular live updates, rather than the pre-recorded documentaries of the original Castaway 2000.

Shipwrecked and Castaway were two of the first reality shows to hit British screens - the Channel 4 show was first broadcast on December 30, 1999, two days before its BBC1 rival.

What do people think of this. To be honest it doesn't sound anything like the original Castaway, the only thing which is the same is the title!

Couldn't care less about Castaway, but Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands was brilliant earlier this year and is deserving of a better slot.

I hope actually they put it in the heart of primetime and attempt to solve their Sunday night problem by putting it on at 8pm - the perfect anti-dote to the likes of Heartbeat etc.

Totally agree about Shipwrecked, it was an excellent series and I throughly enjoyed the Battle of the Islands versione earlier this year. Good tv for a Sunday lunchtime however it does deserve a better slot.
