It looks like Castaway will be 2007's Love Island ratings wise as it only managed 2.4 million viewers and a 10% share pushing BBC1 into 3rd place behind Channel 4

Meanwhile quite funny is a competition on Radio 1 where you can win a place on the show, apparantly according to Annie Mac this would lead to you becoming a household name and end up on the front of Heat as a massive reality tv star. Yeah right!

And I thought it wasn't supposed to be about the fame!

A couple more weeks and it'll be deservedly rating below the far superior Shipwrecked, which deserves more than the million or so viewers it gets.

Agreed. Shipwrecked is excellent but I did prefer it in its Sunday lunchtime T4 slot like last year. Having it at 6.40pm means it clashes with the ITV News/Emmerdale/ start of Corrie so is obviously up against very popular programmes hence not such good viewing figures as it could get.

Kind of agree. Though the later slot is better for me personally as there are always interuptions on a Sunday afternoon, I do think it's a prime example of prime time not being the best time for a show - and relatively speaking I think it performed far better for the channel in the afternoon.

Personally I think they should give it a primetime slot on E4 - where it fit into the schedule better - on Monday nights or something and then repeat it on T4 at the weekend.

When you think about it sandwiching the programme between Time Team and C4 News is a strange bit of scheduling!

I think 10.15pm is the likely slot for Castaway within a few weeks - they'll probably use Easter Sunday as the excuse to move it. I suppose it could always go the other way too and end up being on the same time as Shipwrecked.

I hate the way though how now Castaway returns certain people are trying to make out it was a hit back in 2000 and seen as a real social experiment. From what I recall it was pretty much slated from the off and they never quite knew what they were doing, changing the nature of the programme each time is aired in reaction to what other shows (i.e. Big Brother) were doing far better.

They should never have brought Castaway back. Castaway 2000 was a unique social experiment of its day and worked, but now as said, its like any old reality TV programme. Also many people have realised its apparently a farse with them not being on the island alone etc and shops, laundrette nearby.

So in all this, it also questions the fact... is the reality TV bubble about to burst? Certainly Big Brother seems to have run out of ideas, I'm a Celeb is running out of...well....celebrities?

The reality TV bubble was about to burst back in 2001 - still surviving, just!

I've lost the interest in I'm a Celeb, while Big Brother has definately reached the end of a chapter - but it's proved it can reinvent itself in the past so I'm hopeful they can do it again this year. I just hope they don't leave it too late - if they're staying at Elstree for another year BB8 might end up being just a filler series until they move to a new house where they can bring in the twists they want too!

Does anyone know if they are staying at Elstree?

I think the first series of Castaway which lasted for a year cannot be beaten with this second attempt

Castaway slumped to a new ratings low last night. Just 2.1m and a 9% share tuned in

New celebrity show Play it Again also did badly, only 3.2m and a 14% share watched Jo Brand learn to play a musical instrument

Both these shows pushed BBC1 into third place

So has it been axed completely?

No. It will be rescheduled so that it airs in three half hour shows, every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 7pm.

I wonder how long that will last - BBC1 can hold their own against Emmerdale in the 7pm slot with around 4-5m viewers, but it's back to the problem of who is Castaway aimed at. It's not a slot that'll attract the reality TV fan - and the non-reality fan will probably be watching Emmerdale (or listening to The Archers!)

Surprised they're leaving it until the 15th - that means it must be in the slot on Easter Sunday.

Not sure who it is supposed to be aimed at.
Firstly I thought it was like Big Brother/I'm a Celebrity for Middle England, but at the same time the final person put in will be a Radio 1 listener so are they supposed to be attracting the Big Brother/Heat Generation?

Nobody is watching. I suppose the 2.1m who are just have the TV on in the background not taking notice. The fact is, its not Castaway 2000, its not a project, there's no Ben Fogle, they apparently have "comforts" near by and most people still don't know who Danny Wallace is.

I don't know how much the BBC have spent on this series but its nothing more than any old reality tv waffle.
