I was disappointed to find out that it's only on for the standard (Big Brother) 3 months... wasn't the original show a whole year? Wasn't that the whole point of it?

It's not bad so far, but that's probably because I only vaguely remember Castaway 2000 being on telly (I was 10 at the time). I'll stick with it and see how it goes.

I never watched Castaway 2000 - I didn't even realise it was on until it finished. Big Brother started the same year so I was more taken by that really.

Bah, I didn't see any of BB1, either. Just half of the BB2 finale ... I'm a rubbish fan. Razz

Well, it's bombed in the ratings with just 2.9m watching last night - any info on Friday's figures?

I just think it's going to struggle to find an audience as it's trying to distance itself from "reality TV" - and hence the reality TV fan, yet why would the non-reality TV fan want to watch it?

I've no interest in it whatsoever - it's just typhical "middle England" BBC stuff - and trying to pretend to be something it isn't.

Not only is it a 'set' seems there is a launderette and a takeaway not that far away from the 'Castaways', so obviously they won't be smelly or hungry Very Happy

It looks like Castaway will be 2007's Love Island ratings wise as it only managed 2.4 million viewers and a 10% share pushing BBC1 into 3rd place behind Channel 4

Meanwhile quite funny is a competition on Radio 1 where you can win a place on the show, apparantly according to Annie Mac this would lead to you becoming a household name and end up on the front of Heat as a massive reality tv star. Yeah right!

That's not good when you consider it's got over 2 more months to run, I expect it will be moved, in favour for more Casualty. Rolling Eyes

With so long to go I wonder what would happen if ratings don't pick up.

Do you think it would be quietly shunted to BBC2 or dropped altogether or would BBC1 stick by it?

This series hasn't interested me at all; its just like all the other factory-farmed Reality TV rubbish.

I don't think the new Castaway is anything like the old social experiment of Castaway 2000 - to me it now seems to be a poor man's version of I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here .

I could see them moving it to 10.15pm as the Sunday slot is quite a major ratings war usually. ITV have practically been given the win for the next few months

And I thought it wasn't supposed to be about the fame!

A couple more weeks and it'll be deservedly rating below the far superior Shipwrecked, which deserves more than the million or so viewers it gets.
