Well it has started and so far it isn't anything like the original series

There's definally more upper classes on this reality show than you get on Big Brother!

Completly different from the original series about 5 years ago. Whats with the young conservative bird?! Those beeps are really irritating.

How long is the series on for? So is this like Survivor without the jungle?

That was dull, nothing like the original and bad choice of presenter.

I don't think the 7 year gap has helped it much, it was original back then, but now it just looks derivative of every reality show that followed.

It was a pretty poor show - very much in the IACGMOOH vain.

In other words, presenter tells a short story...some action from the group follows...someone talks about the event in a watchtower...more action from the camp...before back to presenter who makes a half hearted attempt at a joke...before more action from the group.

A weak and feeble attempt. The original show was much more watchable...this is just another reality show. Rolling Eyes

It's obviously trying to replicate the Big Brother sting into clips

All a bit of a scam this, it was in the paper today that this island has a thriving community on it with a population of 700.

A cattle farmer and his family actually live in the area that the Castaways have set up camp, there is even a pub on the island.

The camp is a set. Not at all like Taransay or remotely cut off. What was originally a 'social experiment' has become just like any other reality television show.

I can't see anyone really getting into this and caring what happens. The 'diary room' is very like the Bush Telegraph on I'm a Celebrity..., all the bickering is just like any other reality show

Danny coming into camp at the end is like a very poor mans Ant and Dec

Well, it was never intended to be hidden information that there were inhabitants on the island. It was mentioned within the opening few minutes on the first show and there a lengthy welcome sequence by the locals on the interactive feed.

I'm really enjoying it so far.

Yep - so far it is an entertaining hybrid of the original (which had its own faults) Castaway, Shipwrecked and Big Brother.

Danny Wallace is proving to be quite a witty presenter, the editing is letting situations breathe more (and feels less "manipulated" than other reality shows - as single sequences are allowed to last longer) and the content has at least a few more ideas about society and living together than most other reality shows.

It was certainly watchable - and Danny beats Julia Bradbury (who fronted the dire Castaway Live shows that they started doing towards the end of the original series)
