Back-up systems that made the channels switch to their international versions then?
If there was no back up you'd have seen b***er all!
Contingency plans very rarely try and maintain everything exactly as they are during normal conditions. Broadcasting one generic version of each of their channels means that all their resources, in difficult circumstances, are concentrated on fewer services. It also cuts down their their power load.

Thanks Inspector. I was actually asking a question, not disputing what you said

They all come from the same place so you probably saw the one that made the most sense to the most number of people!

We could see the same thing happening tomorrow, if you look on the EDF energy site link I posted on the previous page, it says that the interruptions could continue into tomorrow.

I've just got home from what was a surreal day in Central London. I work on Oxford street and it seemed to be in the late morning when the south side of Oxford Streeet and upper soho was switched off. Our offices on the north side were still working (unfortunately) but an announcement was made to the whole of the north side of Ox street that we would lose power at exactly 6pm for four hours and were instructed to turn EVERYTHING off at the wall in case of a surge. Sure enough at 6 on the dot the emergency lighting kicked in and all shops, bars, restaurants closed for the remainder of the day. Alarms blaring everywhere. All traffic lights went down and thunder was brewing above.Seemed slightly apocalyptic! We were warned it may happen again tomorrow.
