As we know SKY,Virgin, DTT must carry aome channels by law. But say SES put the cost up of carry channels .And say BBC would not pay the new cost.Could SES take BBC off ASTRA ?

As far as I know, there is no obligation for any particular channel to be on Sky's platform, or on satellite at all. All there is, is that 'due prominence' must be given to BBC 1, 2, ITV 1, C4 and Five on any (including Sky's) EPG.

Remember ITV was not on satellite until three years after the other four PSBs.

Don't think it's the case with DTT, the BBC, ITV and C4 own/run their own transmitters as they do on analogue. There's no central gatekeeper as in cable and satellite, except for the 2 multiplexes run by the Freeview consortium

I'm sure in Ofcom's licencing requirements, it states that ITV-1, C4, S4C, and Five must be available on DTT.

Ofcom certainly say that ITV-1, C4, and Five must run on DTT at a minimum resolution of 704 x 576. Ironically no minimum bit rate is specified (don't we know it !)

Thinking about it some more, I suppose even though ITV, C4 and Teletext carry themselves they could reuse the space for something else!

S4C and five (and Tele-G) are diffrent, because they are 'carried' on someone elses MUX, there are definite rules about them

Surely the key to this is that the broadcaster MUST be carried, IF they ask to be carried.

If the price is so high that they don't ask to be carried (as with ITV in the early days), then there's no requirement to carry.
