I wonder if Love Island will be affected or if they’ll carry on as normal. I can imagine they’ll have a tribute either with the highlights today or Laura will mention it tomorrow.

I think it's hard for them to carry on as normal and just put on a tribute slide, as you would think the vast majority of the crew will have worked with Caroline on past series, not just Iain in the voiceover booth. Can't imagine the atmosphere on any episode of Aftersun would be very good either.

Rebecca Jones - with her arts correspondent background - doing a good job on the News Channel with restrained analysis.

Flicked over to Sky News, where some guest on the phone was pouring over some of her ex-boyfriends, and hypothesising that Valentine's Day might have tipped her over the edge.

And we wonder why the media has a bad rep for augmenting mental health issues of those in the public eye.

Whereas Scott Bryan, the guest on BBC News, gave out the advice to contact a mental health charity or The Samaritans if the story affects a viewer.

I first became aware of her when she was presenting Fash FC with Andy Goldstein which was a programme on Bravo, which ran through an entire football season. I didn’t quite expect her to become quite so famous, but she clearly had some charisma about her so it wasn’t too surprising.

I think it’s difficult for them to carry on with Love Island now, I know she wasn’t put through the situation as a contestant would be but it just feels like too much tragedy is linked to the show including for the face the show. However it’s making lots of money and people still enjoy it, so I wonder.

I think it’d better not to air the summer series this year and just delay it a year. This isn’t like what happened with the contestants or even the Jeremy Kyle situation

Wasn’t Caroline flack the presenter she wasn’t a contestant on Love Island, I imagine the whole duty of care issue was about the contestants rather then the presenter sad however especially for the demographic the show appealed too who I imagine will be shocked and saddened.

The point I'm making is that the whole production requires duty of care. Caroline was clearly as vulnerable as some of the participants on the programme she presented. We had Ant McPartlin have a really bad period after his drink drive incident who has recovered well, but I don't remember the press coverage as intense as Flack had for her recent incident.

Welfare is becoming a major issue and it appears that talent will have to become a duty of care for the production company or broadcasters in the future.

Not just in television but an issue across employment on how to support those who are vulnerable, especially when there is also an expectation that in the case of some criminal charges being bought the employer may actually be expected to distance themselves from the employee.

With Love Island I do agree with others online who suggest the three suicides now associated with the show were highly unlikely to be directly linked to their participation of the show. One thing for sure now is that the press will do everything to protect themselves and although their favourite method of passing the buck is to blame "online trolls" and "social media", rather than their own clickbait, I suspect they'll be looking to crucify ITV too - who pretty much handled this situation the only way they could really with a suspension.

Scott's one of the good guys in the industry.

I totally agree, that’s it different. I’ve never been one to say Love Island should be axed because of the tragedies because the show wasn’t about exploiting people in quite the same way and its premise wasn’t to public shout at and shame people.

I do feel it’s hard for the brand not to have the negative connotations especially if the media now turn against it.

Absolutely terrible news.

Although I don't think it's necessarily fair to attribute Flack's death to Love Island specifically, I can't see how the show can carry on as normal. The vast majority of the crew will have worked closely with Caroline over the last five series' of the show, and will understandably be devastated.

The fact that she was hosting Love Island is just a coincidence really. She would have received the same treatment had she been a big name host on any type of programme, If the job offers had come at different times she could equally have been hosting This Morning, or Strictly, or been a Loose Woman.

Dan Wootton on twitter is shameless, posting long tributes to her, yet being one of the main sources of trashy showbiz scandal.

Indeed, the Jeremy Kyle situation was as a direct result of the show, this wasn't. ITV (and Laura) always implied that her stepping down would be a temporary measure (though realistically that probably wouldn't have been the case) so it wasn't like she was sacked and given no support. I'd be surprised if she wasn't given, or at least offered, continuing support from ITV in the last few weeks given incidents in the past.

The show has survived, and indeed grown following the death of two former contestants and I'd be very surprised if ITV were to completely scrap it.

Didn’t think presenters would be vulnerable as they are trained to deal with it but maybe they aren’t Sad
