No - it has been criticised - but she records in London Live every Sunday for 5Live. She also records Aftersun for itv 2.

I believe they have limited the number of times she appears in SA but this is the way they have decided to produce the programme. Can’t imagine they will again. It is the same as it was arranged for the summer series for Caroline, but of course it was only filmed in Spain.

I totally shut down from social last night after hearing the sad news. She was an incredible talent that was treated so appallingly by the press. I truly hope her lasting legacy can be a rethink in the way we - the public - consume information and treat media personalities. But fundamentally that it forces the national tabloid press to reconsider its actions. The press are there to produce content of public interest.

How many times have we been here before though? Sorry if this is too political but I feel it’s relevant to the discussion. We have a government that is under the thumb of the tabloid media and control the narrative of the government something that isn’t going to change any time soon.

It’s a vicious circle the press stops real political change which stops any real changes to the press.

Have to say too the optics aren’t great for Love Island - first of all yet another person involved in the show commits suicide and this after earlier on in the week the show itself gaslighted one of the contestants (in a ‘headlines’ game they pretended one of the contestants, Finnley, had his head turned in Casa Amor, when the viewers knew this was not the truth).

That said I think those blaming Love Island for Caroline’s death are missing the point - ITV treated her very well (only suspending her rather than outright replacing her) and she didn’t appear hugely on the show anyway.
And getting rid if the show itself won’t fix the issues of online culture/the tabloid press which go far beyond Love Island

A lot of people really need to go back and look at their own needlessly OTT comments they've made on here about Victoria Derbyshire & Carrie Grace, among others, before they do any more pious soap boxing about trolls, media and mental health. You can't blame Love Island for the increasingly vitriolic sh!te that get's posted on here sometimes which is pretty much always aimed at women Rolling Eyes

An extended clip from the opening of Laura's show:

One of the most powerful starts to any programme I have ever heard.
Hats off to Laura, and what she has just said on 5 Live.
The show is most definitely live.

Heartbreaking. Was horrible seeing the first responses to Laura's post last night basically blaming her for her death.

It seems that tweet has been deleted so here it is again, quite a stunning piece of radio from Laura Whitmore

What else can you say, feel so bad for all her friends and family and someone I watched on many tv shows from TMI to Strictly to Xtra Factor and I'm a Celebrity Now, she was a huge talent and will be missed. Yes she wasn't perfect but to feel that was the only way out at 40 is so sad.

Thank God I never went into Journalism as a career. I like being a human being.

That's unfair. There's a hell of a lot of journalists who are doing it for all the right reasons and help people. Admittedly, they don't work on the celebrity gossip desk at the gutter press, but then again, somebody needs to do that because that's what sellIs. The tabloids wouldn't produce the tat they do it there was a public outcry everytime they did.

It was a personal remark. As someone with mental health issues I could not do a job whereby lives are ruined by horrible gossip and smears. ( I speak with a lot of experience).

There are indeed many journalists who do incredible jobs and as you say have helped people. I'm a lifelong reader of "The Daily Mirror" and their current staff include Ros Wynne Jones who does a fantastic job of highlighting social issues and keeping them front and centre.

Likewise there have been some amazing past reporters such as Paul Foot and John Pilger who were responsible for bringing a hell of lot of scandals to the public conciousness.

Its a shame and a scandal that the gutter press are getting all the focus and not the real quality parts of the industry.

We have a very strong tradition of journalism in the UK and it should be cherished and protected. I just hope that this awful tragedy will lead to a rethink but i feel that is a long chance.

I’ve long wondered about the potential of the people who we’ve criticised on this forum seeing said comments, and wondered how they’d react. It has the potential to reflect poorly on this forum and its users.

Please, let’s be the one part of the Internet that will actually learn a lesson from this.

I think it’s important to say there is a difference critiquing someone’s presenting style or voicing a differing on an issue and just being nasty and bullying behaviour.

Absolutely. Its just that its very easy to slip for virtuousness to vitriolic.
