Why is it so important that a viewer in the Grampian region should see the same continuity and branding as a person in the Westcountry region?

Exactly! Why should we get rid of a system that has worked perfectly well since 1955? Why do we need to have a single ITV identity? As I said before ITV is a federation of 15 companies - why change it? For a corporate whim?

Decent programmes will bring in the profits - not adding a 1 onto your logo!

Until ITV suits second attempt at channel branding, Anglia was not a mish-mash. All Continutity, trailers, dogs etc. were all either the moving or static Anglia flag. No confusion, and no mention of ITV, apart from ITV sport.

The day the hearts happened was the end of regional telly. You used to be able to e-mail/phone Anglia and get a friendly voice who slagged off LWT liberally (anyone remember the Jake and the Fatman revolt, led by Anglia and Yorkshire?). Now, I got the same answer about F1 word for word from two ITV regions and ITV Network Centre.

Then you had the nice young lady who took over from Graham Bell. He was the last continuity announcer to use the Anglia clock. One day he was at work, the next day he was dead. The young girl who took over from him (Never found out her name) used his words and the Anglia clock every news time right up until it was axed, I was told as her memorial to him. That nice touch can't happen now.

I used to like Anglia - you used to get to know the voices, get to visualise the announcers. I used to love TVS too (the last two were the best idents ever). I don't see why there has to be a template, a national ident, or even an ITV brand at all. Talk to an American, and who do the Americans know BBC and Thames. More people know about Sky than know about ITV - no-one knows what ITV is.

Even in Britain, the only people I know who refer to ITV is London. Everyone where I live still says Anglia. A lot of people in the Midlands where I used to live still call it ATV! The only people who give two hoots about ITV is the ITV suits. That is why the ITV digital rebrand is pointless - no-one cares.

*Counting to thirty and thinking nice thoughts*
I'm calmer now. Very Happy

That's very true.
Time and time again I try to explain to people at CNN what ITV is.
They've heard of the BBC and Sky, and that's all they've heard of.
ITN is known, but not very well, and only because of the exposure it gets on CNN.
When I tried to explain that my local TV company employs more people than CNN, Americans just couldn't grasp the concept of this one at all!
The idea of one station owning another etc, it just confused them.

Absolutely spot on, D -- but try telling that to the marketing whizz-kids at 'itv' now. (BTW, isn't that 'itv' logo so dated already -- and was when it originally went to air.)

Oh, and another thing, who cares if the Americans know what ITV is, I certainly don't. Where is the relevance in that at all to anything.

Absolutely! I never liked it luckily Carlton never took it up and LWT ditched it after a few months - I personally prefer the 1989 logo and I think it could still be used - what's happened to TV presentation? It used to be about imagination and creativity now its about getting it done quickly and cheaply. It could be computer graphics - maybe we should lock the ITV computers up and make them make an ident the old fashioned way and knowing the amount of work it would take they might create something imaginative and long lasting like the Thames ident!

Whilst I agree with your sentiments about the idents , I'm actually referring to the 'orrible yellow on blue 'itv' logo. Dreadful it is! Just so C20! Not to say, cr@p Very Happy

What do you mean they never took it up, they have it on all of their idents and trailers.

Well, I get the impression that ITV think that can turn the ITV brand into the BBC brand, especially abroad. There is potentially a huge amount of cash to be made in selling programmes abroad, and the BBC brand carries a certain image, as does Thames. ITV doesn't.

Why do you think Murray, Martin and James keep referring to the F1-ITV pit crew? That isn't for British consumption. It's for all the foreign suits who take the ITV international sound feed.

I guess it was a bit of a digression though.

I was going to say the same thing about the logo a while ago Andrew, it seams dated, they need something fresher, especially if they are going to use it as much as they want to.

ITV needs to shape up with locations aswell, because my TV downstairs has Central WEST and my TV upstairs have Central South. And both arials are facing the same way, whys that?Confused
